the last straw was when i hid behind some busted concrete, hit vats, and pumped 9 rounds of 5.56 directly into my cover. this is also a favorite move with the sniper rifle, and repeated several times a night. when this is a regular occurance, the game is crapware.

Yea the game was buggy, bad voice acting, boring side quests, crappy ending, and too much other bad stuff to list.

Well, for whatever grievances I have against the game after a long wait for a sequel, and my growing irritation toward the devs, I still find myself playing it pretty often. The difference is that I am usually neck deep in good mods, so that helps.

I liked it enough until I got to quests that involved going into building or tunnels. Everywhere looks the same and it's really hard to get around without getting lost. The map is pretty much useless, and I don't want to spend an hour trying to find my way out of every building I enter.

This. When I had to find my way around downtown DC, I wanted to throw my computer out the window. I hate those arbitrarily huge piles of rubble that you can't quite jump over, even though you know the quest objective is right on the other side and there's no path through a building. And then each metro tunnel has no identifying characteristics or real way to determine where it might take you.

Seriously, after the initial "wow" factor of the first couple hours, I wasn't really impressed with any environment other than maybe Rivet City and Lamplight Caverns.

Never played it. I did love Morrowind though, so would you suggest I give Daggerfall a try?

If you don't mind the low resolution and using DOSBOX, then yeah.

Daggerfall is f'in HUGE compared to all other games.
This is a map of just ONE city in Daggerfall

Daggerfall, I still have the huge book that came with it. Those really were the good old days for me.

Yeah, for what good that does. Almost everything else in them is structurally identical, and even enemy placement was predictable to the point where I knew I would spot a feral ghoul or a raider as soon as I walked out of the entrance tunnel onto the mezzanine above the subway tracks. With a few dozen metro entrances and practically identical paths in each one, I challenge any new player to navigate through DC without bring the map up every 2 minutes to make sure they didn't take a wrong turn. Say what you will, but I found the whole area to be the complete opposite of fun, and a cheap way to draw out an already short game.

im still exploring it and doing side quests as i come across them. i think im only lvl 12 tho. im not disappointed in the game, but it isnt nearly as "gotta get home and play!" like 1 and 2 were for me.

I haven't even touched the Main Quest yet. I started on the Survival Guide quest out of Megaton, and have acquired many of the other side quests in my travels for the Survival Guide sub-quests.

I am greatly enjoying just wandering around the wasteland, exploring various areas and taking on Raiders and Super Mutants.

By just wandering around, I stumbled upon a firefight between the Brotherhood of Steel and some Super Mutants. I ran into a pacifist Super Mutant wandering the wasteland named Uncle something or other. My favorite random encounter thus far was the Antagonizer quest...I kept her helmet, and still wear it simply because it looks so absurd.

Cleared the Mutalisk den underneath one of the monuments. Took on the Fire Ant quest in I forget which town.

Currently doing the Blade Runner-esque android quest out of Rivet City.

I am also enjoying how the radio station news is starting to reflect and report on my actions...a nice touch for making the gaming world feel alive.

I loved Morrowind just because the different environments were so unique. Oblivion was a better game graphically, but the world was a bit dull and too medieval realistic as opposed to high fantasy. Fallout so far has been great.

Well i managed it just fine... all i did was use the waypoint thing and follow it on the little NSWE compass thing, i only went the wrong way once and the only time that pointer has ever led me astray is the stairwell in rivet city, its not obvious which if the 3 levels you are supposed to go to if the pointer points to one of them.

Plus theres interesting things in the tunnels, people, creatures, mines etc. Theyre not that repetitive.

I just wished the leveling system was slower/better. Think I maxed out after 40 hours, so I played most of the game with the same, unchanged character.

A game in the mad max world would be 100x better.

Oblivion sucked, Fallout 3 is just an Oblivion mod, that sucked just a little less than Oblivion.
