Not everywhere. In NH, no portion of a traffic citation fine goes to the issuing town. Then again, we also have a 'reasonable and prudent' clause in the speed statute, so if you get a ticket for 45 in a 35 and can convince the judge that 45 was reasonable and prudent for the existing conditions, you can be found not guilty of excessive speed.

Good luck with convincing a judge of that one.

First time I was going the limit, so no problems, but i was going in a downhill section of I-5 into castiac (south I-5 before castiac starts)

The other time was last weekend, coming over a hill into santa cruz area (HWY 17) and the guy nails me, i was the pack leader, i braked hard... no ticket though.

I was going 60 in a 45 at that point, brought it down to 50 in a micro second. I dont know if he hit me first or someone else, regardless I got a warning from the detector and I slowed. Guy was camping behind a tree.

At least Kahleeforneeya "plays fair" with its radar use.

The law requires the cop to be in plain sight, no hidden radar traps not visible from the roadway, no "undercover radar cars" like they use in many states, etc.

the last time we lived in Spokane, (86-87) the WSP was using a 1959 Dodge pick up as a radar car...and bragged about how many speeders they caught with it. When I used to travel a lot for my work, I'd see cops on the side of the highway, no car in sight...posing as a bicyclist, with a broken-down VW mini-bus, hiding in the bushes, etc...just to catch someone speeding.

While I don't like the radar cars, at least we have something of a "level playing field" here.

they would be if they were consestent and fair. there are a few places where the speed limit goes from 55 to 35 with no warning (or reason) for like 100 yards with a nice place for cops to hide.

Also there is a school zone speed signs when the school was abondoned years ago and yet cops will still nail people for it.


its been like 10 yrs since i got a speeding ticket.since i have had kids i do my best to go 4-6miles over or just slightly lower then the rest of traffic (wichever is safer)

The traffic laws in Kahleeforneeya don't allow things such as the bolded part of your post. The speed limit can only change by 10 mph at a time, and they give you 1/4 mile warning of "reduced speed ahead."
Part of my old commute route was on I-580 where the speed limit was 70. I got off on a state highway where the speed limit was 55. The CHP wrote TONS of tickets in the first mile after that interchange. (just a long sweeping ramp off the interstate, no stops) They finally changed the speed limit to 65 when you first get off, then about a mile later, it drops to 55.
The school zone here also says "Speed limit 25 when children are present." That's both good and bad. Some states have set hours for the reduced speed in school zones, although there may be kids still there after those hours...but also, on days where there is no school, (and thus, no kids) the reduced speed limit does not apply.

Michigan has even done that one better. On those somewhat rural two lane 55 mph roads that are everywhere, a municipality has to have a third party do a speed audit that shows the speed needs to be reduced from 55 mph. If there hasn't been an audit done recently (5 years, I think) then the road is automatically a 55 mph road. A ton of speedtrap tickets are being thrown out as we speak because of this law, but also a ton of speedtrap tickets are being paid by an unknowing public.
