So, how good are Raptors

I'm doing an intermediate upgrade, and I plan to spend about $350. About $150 of that is going on a case... but I can't decide between klipsh speakers or a 74 GB Raptor.
I keep hearing about how great Raptors are, how you can install Windows in 10 minutes, start Windows in 5 seconds, load programs faster, etc. But is that the only benefit for having an ultra-fast hard-drive, or will I see overall noticable performance increase, notably in games? Right now I have a 160 gb ide ata133 drive.
Do raptors really live up to their hype? Or will I simply have a system that loads Windows and IE in a snap?
(if unjustified i'll go w/ the high-end 2.1 klipsh speakers)
thx!

Generally things such as loading games and programs will be faster, but you're not going to get more frames per second or anything like that.

Unless you have money to burn, a raptor really isn't cost effective. It will give you faster loading times, but the difference isn't going to be amazing.

Some nice speakers on the other hand

Have you looked at the Swam M200s by the way? Klipsch isn't the only game in town.

You could also get a nice integrated amp and a set of bookshelf speakers in that range.

Dell has the 5.1 Promedia Ultras for $262 right now if I remember my figures right. There's a thread about it in hot deals. I'm not sure if it's still alive or not, but you might want to check it out as it's quite a deal.

The 74 GB Raptor is currently the quickest SATA drive available.

In a normal desktop use, it's perfectly suited for use as a boot drive, you'll notice that it boots, loads appllications, and tranfer files faster.

are WD Raptors worth their price?
Take a look Here or here or here and here...
I'm still not done... look here... one more.

YOU could have found ALL these and more, by using the AT SEARCH FUNCTION.

ahh ok well these answer my question well
I guess I will go with the speakers then...
I want the best 2.1 speakers there are so I'm assuming those are either the Klipsh or Logitechs. My room just isn't set up where rear speakers would be efficient.
I guess I can do a search on the best 2.1 speakers out there? That'd be logical
thanks guys!

o, I'm also looking at the Swan M200's.
They look really nice, but it doesn't include a sub. However I'm not really into rap anyway so I guess that wouldn't be a big deal.
How do Swans 2.1's compare to Klipsh 2.1s?

Oh for heaven's sakes! You expect people to do something logical? pa-shaa! That'll be the day.

Hey if people didn't keep asking the same question it wouldn't be as easy for you to maintain your ~80 ppd.

ok I'm experienced in soldering, but is it really worthwhile to build my own speakers, as far as quality? I can live without a sub. I just want clean sound. & what is this integrated amp you speak of? sorry for all the newb questions

The quality in building your own in untouchable! Much like DIY computers vs Dell and the like. A lot more value for your money.

Integrated amplifier is an amplifier and a pre-amp in one unit. An amplfier does just that, a pre-amp has volume, tone (bass and treble), and input selection.

If you want to see the sister to the BR-1s (pure DIY) with similar characteristics take a look at the Dayton 2s. Can look at the graphs and read up on what went into it. The system response graph is very interesting... Few speakers you can buy have as flat of response like that. Very accurate sound. And their soundstage is increble. And more bass than any 2.1 plastic computer setup you can buy.
