Whoa, a dug sighting. I thought you drank yourself to death or something?*throws a brick at the OP's truck*
I kid, I kid (a very old AT joke ).
Guys, this is SC he's talking about. They play by their own set of rules of there. I'm on the border of NC and SC. SC is like another country all to itself. Heck, they still assess fines and collect them on the side of the road.
And lost my license, haven't driven since may 22nd. maybe another month at least until i get my license back.
I was walking out of the gas station with a case of beer in each hand, they saw that i was going to my car and came up to me in the parking lot. Asked if i was drunk i said no i just had 2 beers, one with my dinner and one after, so it was about 2 beers for 2 hours at least.Wait, am I piecing this story together properly? You got a DUI in 1990 for walking home drunk, just lost your license (2010), and have to attend a class? Dude, call a lawyer. Hell, call a law clinic at your nearest law school and let a student handle this.
This was my first offense, i was arrested, paid the fine and released, i never heard anything else about it for 20 years. I don't drink at all, i have not even had a speeding ticket since then. This is a blatent case of people in a position of power abusing it.If you get your license back and make the same mistake, then no one would really care.
Repeated offenders don't need pity or forgiveness.
i am grateful for that, but i was hardly drunk, i drank 2 beers and drove a 1/4 mile to the gas station (out in the country) to buy beer. While i was walking out with 2 cases of beer the cops came up to me and started asking me if i had been drinking, i told the truth, 2 beers, i was going home with the beer to drink it there. There was no breathalyzer test, just basically arrested me because i admitted to having the 2 beers. Very small town in SC and the cops did pretty much whatever they wanted in it.

Strangely, and I am evangelical about how people who get DUI should be leashed and sent to camps to work until they die, I do have sympathy.i am grateful for that, but i was hardly drunk, i drank 2 beers and drove a 1/4 mile to the gas station (out in the country) to buy beer. NY = fail. I heard a guy on the news recently arrested after like the 9th time. I mean I really frankly don't know why these people haven't honest to God been put on a chain gang with a minimum sentence, but anyway. I hear commercials on the radio about lawyers who specialize in DWI and I would like to know if their "giving people a fair trial" really helps them sleep at night. My crazy sister in law is on her 2nd aggravated DWI in NY, and she is still driving thanks to some lawyers. She has a breathalyzer installed in her car, but she is allowed to drive to work, and she also uses her car throughout the day for her job too. She works for a state job too, which I thought used to fire you if you had a DWI, but I guess that's not the case anymore.
It pisses me off how screwed up the laws are that people that get shitfaced drunk and have no problems getting behind the wheel are still allowed to drive, even if it is just for work.
I think part of the story is that he may not have been legally drunk anyway! Let alone the fact it was 1/4 mile, so you could be a pedant and say even if he drove to his neighbors house three doors down it was still drunk driving, but maybe he wasn't even legally drunk anyway.rhino56, i have zero tolerance for anyone whom drinks and drives as a friend of mine was killed by a drunk. some states, they confiscate your vehicle too. personally, if it were up to me, you would be force to drive around with a bright yellow license plate that says so others know to watch out.
it's not as bad as people who text/talk on cell, put on makeup, wear headphones, while driving, but it's still pretty bad.
how would you feel if you killed someone while drunk? next time, call a friend or take a taxi.
How the fvck it this possible even? But I do believe you. 25 months would have been WAY too easy on this guy. THIRD offense and causing a serious accident. IMO he should be legally banned from drinking EVER again as well. Period. You get three DUI what in fvck is wrong with you, don't drink ever again, you wear an alcohol bracelet until the day you die and fvck you, too.I'm continually surprised by how wildly DUI laws are enforced in different part of the country. One year ago tomorrow my family and I were almost killed by a drunk driver. This was his third offense. His BAC was .23 and he was passed out when he crossed the center line and hit us essentially head on. My parents were fine but my spleen ruptured in two places and I was in the hospital for a week.
This guy was sentenced to 25 months in prison and fined $3500. The 'Judge' stayed EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT. He wrote a three sentence 'apology' letter and as long as he doesn't get any same or similars in three years, he's good to go.
Meanwhile, I'm staring at over 100K in medical bills. Makes perfect sense to me...

Which small town?
**EDIT**
I see Summeville on your letter. So I am assuming Dorchester, Ladson, or Goose Creek.
DUI.
Obligatory "MURDERER!"

i spent a night a jail, paid a fine to get out and thought that was it, never heard another word about it until i went to renew my drivers license this time. SC put a hold on it, the sad part is this is from 1990. Now i have to go to 16 hours of alcohol counseling, costing me around 1000.00 for all of this.

MADD started our DUI laws rolling, they really make no sense especially looking at how few people really die from it. The fact is most getting arrested would never hurt anyone and the retards pounding down a case of beer in an hour and going out driving are rare.
The person that started MADD is really upset with what they created. She never intended what's being down today.
