I guess I'll just sputter along with my 16 valve pushrod engine... (of fury)

I don't mind 16 pushrods, my other car is a 1995 9C1 Caprice. I wouldn't mind a LSx GTO or G8 in the future.

3 intake 2 exhaust.

Intake area is always greater than exhaust on any head. Even with same # of valves the intake valves are bigger.

Heres why:

Pulling air into the cylinder relies on vacuum, or more precisely 14.7 psi of atmospheric pressure when the piston is traveling down.

The piston travelling upward is capable of creating over 150 psi depending on compression ratio. Over a factor of 10 more than intake and that's the minimum with a low compression engine around 8:1.

It's harder to get gases into the cylinder than out and for that reason alone valve surface area is always biased towards intake regardless of number of valves. Even if the 3 intake valves are slightly smaller than 2 larger exhaust valves, it still adds up to geometrically greater flow area on the intake side.

Exhaust also helps in part to expel itself in that it's still energetic and expanding at greater than atmospheric pressure when the exhaust valves open to atmosphere, thus exhaust gas would start flowing out on it's own even if the piston was stuck at BDC and wasn't moving at all. Intake isn't going to do that without a blower or turbo :awe:

Makes sense.

How much did you pay?

$8k. Took a few months of looking, but I think I found a good deal. I went to Chicago to check out 2 others, but they had too many issues, no receipts. One of the sellers was a typical used car salesman, I found a bunch of issues and he made a bunch of excuses as I pointed them out.

I did miss out on a immaculate one for $10k a few weeks earlier. One owner, all dealer service with receipts still under CPO, well I think it would be up now as I think it is 10yr or 100k.

keep us up to date with that thing.

Fuel logs, maintain costs, etc

Will do, so far 21mpg highway, and 18.6 mixed driving.
I did replace the intake linkages with billet pieces for $80 (instead of plastic dealer replacement kits for $400 each x2)

you are buying an Audi. Fuel cost should be the least of your concerns

If someone buys a high power engine and then frets over mileage, they really need to rethink their priorities.

I know I get between 10 and 20 mpg (city vs highway), but I don't stress over it. I knew that going in to it.

Right?

Gas prices? LOL

It's all about $1000 in tires every 6-12 months

I'm torn right now on what to use for summer tires. I have 2 sets of Eagle f1 supercars 255/45r20 rear and 245/45r20 front. I have no clue what I'm putting on after I wear those out. I'm planning to put one set back on March-ish, so I'll have to figure it out by June.....

I already have plans for an off-road toy/road trip/mileage vehicle. I have a 1.6l VW TD in the garage waiting for a rust free tintop Suzuki samurai. Should be low 40mpg with 31s and the right gears/transfer/xfer case.

Larry, tell Vincent what you'll need.

Something very fast. Audi S8 . Something that can shove.

Hmm what was that other movie...

I'll give him $100, that will buy a lot of cigarettes in prison. Maybe even enough to buy a new boyfriend

So, in keeping with updates...

The car had a 6-disk changer, but no cartridge. A new one shipped is about $40, so I went with the PhatNoise system that integrates into the stock stereo for not much more. There are also "Hacks" to put a bigger laptop IDE HD(I think I have one laying around somewhere) in the cartridge.

So, yeah. Audi parts are a little more expensive than GM parts, not that I didn't know that from having VWs in the past.

The rear caliper bracket is $175 (cheapest I could find), the equivalent for my Caprice was $18.

Which made it easier for me to spend an hour getting a rusted guide pin out and save the one I had.

Nice to know the prior owners mechanic sucks, He just had the brakes worked on including a rebuilt caliper on the same side as the frozen pin.

Good luck with it. At least Audi's from that era are sort of reliable . I know the b5 a4s were OK at least.

I will never buy another audi unless I'm so rich I have multiple nice cars

Good so far.

Stuck caliper hanger/ bracket. The actuator arms I fixed when I bought it and a had to clean the cowl and evap drains as they were clogged and I had a wet carpet. Luckily all the front carpet comes out in pieces so it was easy to get the water soaked up and run a fan on them for a couple days.

That's it for problems.

It's fairly fast, rides great, and great in the winter also.

beautiful car, I am jealous. That is a D2 right? I think I would be happy with a plain vanilla D2 A8. They are supposed to be great cars and very reliable. How much was the timing chain job? There is an amount on the receipt? You don't wanna share with us how much the car was?

Yup, thanks. I hope so, parts aren't cheap for this car. Doing the labor should cut down on the costs though.

Looks like it was done at 97k and cost $1500

While looking through the receipts I see it was the dealership that noticed the stuck guide pin and only replaced the pads, douchbags. I guess I should have looked closer at them when I bought the car, the $100 inspection I had done didn't catch it either.
