So I was watching Aliens..

So I was watching Aliens earlier, and I started thinking about the scene where they prepare to fly to the space colony, the marines' armor, weapons, airship, etc. sorta reminded me of stuff in the Halo videogames. Does anyone know if Halo actually copied concepts or ideas from the movie, and whether any other games or movies did the same? Or, did the Aliens movie copy concepts from an earlier movie? Of course, I know there were previous and further movies in the Alien series, but it seems like the whole space marine thing might have made it's way around elsewhere.

Wait, Aliens came out in '86, when was the book written? Amazon shows it as being written in '87. Do I have the wrong book?

Some Halo stuff was obviously making fun of Aliens (think of the Flood scene watched via the soldier's helmet) but for the most part they stole their ideas from Marathon.

Starship Troopers, the movie, is on my favorites list for being SO DAMN BAD. But Dizzy and Carmen are SMOOOOOOOOKIN' hot in it, so it's all good.

Is it really stealing if it's the same company?

Starcraft always seemed to borrow a lot of ideas from the Warhammer 40k universe too.

I only saw Aliens once (maybe 7 or 8 years ago) so maybe I'm forgetting the plot a little. (I saw the first one a bunch of times).

Essentially, a couple of inter-galactic soliders land on a research base on another planet and all hell breaks loose including contamination of the humans with alien DNA?

Basic plot: All hell breaks loose (the alien/zombie variety) on a space ship/research lab outside Earth and a team/lone-intrepid-warrior has to overcome the odds.
1) System Shock 2 (video game)
2) Event Horizon (just kinda similar)
3) Doom (the movie even had a stereotypical squad)
......
