My wife died when my daughter was 2. I am a teacher for the St Louis Public Schools. Teach 7 classes, 160 freshman and juniors. Our district was just taken over by the state so we now have to put in extra hours on paperwork. I have been working about 60 hours a week and caring for her. Its all good because we finally have a level of responsibility to our students... but I is one case of tired!

Does that mean it's ok to be a bad father just because he's a bit tired from working 60 hours a week (60 hours a week is hardly slave labor)? Honestly? Cowboy up. Bad things happen to a lot of people, quite a few have to deal with things quite a bit worse than this OP on a daily basis. He came in here looking for some kind of sympathy? Heh. His wife died when his daughter was 2, I'd imagine that's a few years back by this point as the daughter is trick or treating. Yes, it's terrible, but you've got to move on and make things work as best you can - skipping trick or treat night because you're beat is not an excuse. Cowboy up.

There's nothing productive about the thread as he's billed it. He could easily had just posted a thread saying he feels shitty that he doesn't have the energy to take his kid trick or treating because of extraneous reasons but was able to arrange for a neighbor to do it for him. Instead, the thread is structured challenging everyone to call him a jerk based on incomplete information so that he can turn around and make some kind of schadenfreuden ladened guilt-trip. Out of the myriad of ways that he could post this thread he chooses the most confrontational.

So this is what has become of Anandtech offtopic. . . a bunch of morons making their egotistical comments about an innocent posting I made during a time when I was a bit pissed at myself. I am forever grateful for man's inhumanity to man. It certainly gives me something else to feel sorry for than my own behaviors.

I posted it in the way I wanted people to see it. And you obviously know everything about me and my motives for doing something. I'm certain your college professor is proud of your ability to draw such absolute conclusions regarding the intent of a posting on this thread... and your supercilious ego is happy once again to formulate judgments based on theory rather than giving a person any benefit of the doubt.

If your adopted paradym and obviously low self esteem can stand a bit of rattling, did you ever stop to notice that I was responding to the post of another when I added the information about my wife and where and how much I have worked. If you had been actually able to discern another possible theory for what I posted, you might have thought I simply did that to share why I was tired and the fact that I am somewhat in a dilemma as far as my daughter goes. I am not as obviously perfect at formulating conclusions on my conduct as you are. I personally think your comments served no positive purpose and if anyone is playing games it is you.

You know, I don't know where you come from or what you stand for, but I would invite you some time to spend a bit more time honestly looking at your reasons for doing something rather than spewing undigested vomit about someone else's motives as fact.
