Why the hell would you LS swap? You can make more power with that stock-ass engine and a turbo (okay, and changes to engine controls).
This has already been covered, and no you can't. Not reliably. If you have data to prove me wrong, by all means do so. But I've spent a significant amount of time researching this so I'm pretty confident in this.
An LS3 with cams/bolt ons will get you to 450 whp, 470lb/ft with a power curve that will make a boosted GE cry. There's absolutely NOTHING stopping you from boosting or spraying an LS. One of the turbo LS builds was at 570whp, 590lb/ft at 7psi. Yes, 7 whole psi. A stock LS1 with a Procharger will get to roughly the same HP numbers as the SRT kit and have all of the torque. Which brings me to....
SRT Stage 3 Turbo kit. Starting at $6,749.99. Rated for 500bhp.
That does not include the $900 (plus shipping) of transmission upgrades so you don't blow it up. That puts you at $7,650. That's $7,650 to bolt on parts to an engine with 208k miles on it. $7,650 will get me a low milage LS1 AND T56 (which are rock solid at that power level) plus a good start on upgrades.
So you'd be swapping a GM V8 into your Lexus in the hopes of remaining OBD2 emissions compliant?
Eff that, sir. Eff that in its anus.
It's not a hope, it's a simple fact. As long as the LSx is the same year or newer than the factory engine and all emissions related equipment is intact, it will pass emissions as it meets or exceeds the emission standards of the original engine and will not have any CEL issues.
I think this has to be one of the best ideas....ever... Bravo! Keep the build pics rolling in! Anxious to see how this turns out..
And you live in Mesa? I might just have to invite myself over to see this in person!.. Maybe a Friday night trip to Speedworld will be in order?...
Yeah, we are a long way from the Speedworld point but definitely going to want to do some runs with it.
