A friend of mine is giving me a P4 3.0 along with 2 gigs of ram (DDR400). Instead of letting it go to waste, I thought about building up another machine for the wife to check internet and email and maybe a game or two since all I'd have to pick up is a motherboard.

They are tough to find, but two motherboards that are sold local are:

ASRock P4i65G 865G Mainboard

Foxconn 66IMXPlus SiS661GX+SiS964L Socket 478 Mainboard

I am just using these two as starting points. Any thoughts on these two boards...one better than the other?
Onboard video isn't a must, AGP is.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks VChuck.....

The ASRock board was the initial one that I was probably leaning towards, however the price of both boards is 79.99 + tax.

I have done some looking/searching online and found it cheaper and I also need to check out our local MicroCenter too and hopefully I'll find a better price.

Thanks,

Steve

Why not check out the For Sale\Trade forum here? You should be able to pick up a great board for less than these bargain-bin boards, as long as you don't mind buying used.

Most stable boards are going to have the Intel 865/875 chipset. I had one with the ATI chipset (6100 IGP but with an AGP slot) and it was also rock solid. If you don't plan to OC, you should just get the most stable platform for the CPU at stock.

The ASRock board is the better choice by far. Foxconn's CPU compatibility list for the Foxconn board is probably the shortest I've ever seen and does not list any 800MHz FSB processors.

Computer geeks has a most unusual board; it's made by asrock and has both a socket 478 and 775 dual cpu capable; it's about $52 plus shipping, but may be used.
