This one may seem dumb, but I ran into it on the Asus A7m-266D Rev1.04.

--unplug all of the chassis connections except the power button and attempt to boot the system.

My issue was that the manual AND the screening on the board were incorrect. Only found out by calling Asus.

Just a thought from a rookie.

I had sort of the same problem with a cheap power supply. I would hit the power button. The computer would start booting, and then it would shut off. The time it would stay on varied from varied from 3 seconds to a minute. All the some components worked great with a different power supply. This was back in the 300A to 450 days when no one even cared how many watts thier power supply was able to put out.

I think it might have to do with inconpatibility. Mayeb the Mobo isn't right for the Case or maybe the fan is not compatible with the mobo(i doubt this). Check everything with everything. I believe that two or more peripherals are conflicting.

As many have said, IT IS a fan header problem!!! The CHAFAN1, 2 & 3 headers aren't the only ones on the board. Look just above the RAM slots and you'll see the CPUFAN1 and CPUFAN2 headers!!! Use CPUFAN1, PROBLEM SOLVED! (I hope ) Oh and CHAFAN3 ought to have the Chipset fan pulgged into it.

shadowfox is right, if you look here, you can see that the cpu fan should plug in just a little down and to the right of the cpu socket.

Shadow and the rest, thanks.
however like I said earlier, I found that problem and fixed it, the mobo doesnt restart anymore, but the problem isn't fixed yet unfortunatelly.
Nothing's displayed onto the monitor.
It runs but the monitor is in power save, as if it wasn't even plugged in.
I tried eveythihg and it wont start the monitor. All the parts have been tested seperatly and they are all fully functional.
Nevertheless I tried a new monitor new everything and nothign's coming on.
Actually tried putting another CPU there (a working tbird 1.2GHz with it's Fan) and it didn't help.
Basically I get no image on the monitor, the monitor stays off as if I hadn't plug it into the video card, I tried 3 different AGP video cards and one PCI one, and still nothing.
I cleared the CMOS every time first, I also got another stick of RAM PC2100 Crucial 128mb, and put it instead of the other one, and nothing happened.
I'm plugging the RAM in the third slot from the CPU, that is DIMM1.
I have another EPOX motherboard that I use with another PC, and everything works fine on it, but the same situation gives no result on the SOYO.
The beeps could probably help but I have no idea what they mean. ( every 5 seconds there's a 2 second beep, and it keeps going).
Other than wait for the 400W PSU I ordered, I really think I've tried absolutely everything.
I'm encouraged to think that the motherboard is defective, but this is a new one I received after returning the first SOYO I got, cause it reacted this way. No way I got 2 defective ones in a row, somethin'g wrong here. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Guys according to the SOYO FAQ site, it says that long intermitent beeps are sign of imcompatible memory, so I went and checked the compatibility for the dragon plus, and it says PC2100/pc1600 ddr ram, is recommended.
But that's exactly, what I got. i got a PC2100 ddr ram 128mb
could it be a parity thing?
it says it should be 184-pin non-ECC, unbuffered DDR SDRAM memory too
how do I find out what mine is, and could that be the problem?

Thanks
LG.

in a bold move, I have decided to order yet another stick of RAM to cover all my bases.
But first I'd like to know is this what I need?
184 pin - DDR PC2100 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 7.5ns ? 2.5V ?

SOYO says to get: 184-pin PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC, unbuffered DDR SDRAM

I'm guessing Non-ECC and NON-Parity mean the same thing?

Just making sure.

Peace.

I think it's the mem, like a stated in my first post. I have never once got a beep from a bad/incompatible video card, only memory. It would not be wise to order another mem stick from the same company that you have already tried twice in the same mobo...

This is a long thread and maybe I've missed it, but have you tried a PCI video card? Maybe the AGP slot on the board is bad which might produce the problem you're currently having. You said that you thought it was too unlikely you got two bad mobos in a row, but if the first time the problem was having the CPU fan on the wrong header, the board might've been okay.

A couple of posts above you'll see that I said I tried a PCI video card, it didn't help.
But again, the beeps I got were pretty clear about what was wrong, apparently it's the RAM, that's what the SOYO site says.
It's not compatible. I don't think it's got anything to do with Brand. It's the fact that I got buffed-ECC RAM the first time around, and just found out my mobo doesnt support it, it requires non-ECC unbuffered RAM, which is what I ordered.
I while back they built a PC similar to mine in MaximumPC magazine, if I remember correclty, they had the same motherboard, same cpu, and got the RAM from crucial, just as I did. Hopefully that'll solve it.
Thanks to all of you for your help and support, really nice of you.

LG.

PS: whoever said RAM wasn't compatible(ECC problem) and/or header problem gets all my respect.

My friend has a Computer engineering degree and i had to help him set up his wireless network and then fix his laptop when it wasn't booting right. Anyways, sorry for the rant, LordGozul i mean nothing towards you, I just notice quite a few posts where peopel bring up their engineering degrees and it just makes me laugh.

Sorry for the rant.

Hey, that's a bold statement there, I'm sure not all Computer Engineers do this. I am in college right now to be a Computer Engineer, and I have never flouted the fact that this is what I'm doing or have said, something to the fact that "I'm in my 3rd year of Computer Engineering, so I know what I'm talking about".

It's a big statement to say that computer/electronics/electrical engineers always.

And yes, I suppose I just said it, but only to prove a point. I can say that people usually feel proud that they are a Engineer since its no easy task to become one.

And I will admit that there are a ton of people that have nothing to do with engineering that know more about computers than me.
