solved by playing around with TCP/IP settings...can't be sure which one of 2 or 3 changes did it, but all 3 problems have gone away, so I'm happy.
I've got two problems here that I believe are related, would appreciate some help working through them...
1. I can't connect to AIM on my desktop system ("the aim service can't be reached")
2. I can't connect to the ITunes music store on the same system ("ITunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection was refused")
For AIM, I checked the connection settings, and am trying to connect to login.oscar.aol.com, port 5190. I tried letting it autoconfigure, but it ran through all of the default ports and couldn't connect. Another system, connected through the same router and also connecting to 5190, connects fine.
For ITunes, I don't really have any additional info. It's not installed on the second system...It's just so quick to refuse the connection that I suspect a connection. solve one, solve the other (hopefully).
Info/Background: running winXP, both programs had worked fine after a relatively recent re-format/re-install, just moved to a new apartment & now this problem is popping up. possible connection to the move (comcast transferred my account settings from one address to the other), but I can't be sure. Windows firewall is off, not running zonealarm or anything of the sort, and I tried it with my router's firewall turned off, still no go.
I'm not great at networks/ports, so if the response has anything to do with opening a port please spell it out for me clearly
Thanks for any help...
