Ok, I keep seeing all these posts on how McCain, Lieberman, Powell, etc should run in 2008 for the Republicans. I think one this is clear from this election, Democrats need to move to the RIGHT, not Republicans to the LEFT. People need to stop thinking that McCain will get the nod in 2008, he won't.. He's not conservative enough.. I think however a large number of people think that a moderate Republican appeals to them.. Instead of hoping for a moderate Republican, you need to find a conservative democrat to run... Hilary isn't going to win it. You need to stop nominating the hard core lefties, and push toward the middle.. then you will steal enough Republican votes to win.

Or nominate a Democratic Fund A Mental Case Evangelical Whack job for President. That would really deplete the Republicans voter base.

I agree with you, but I hope the democrats don't wise up to the fact. It seems the peopel who make the most noise are the far left liberals such as the Hollywood types and Michael Moore. However a majority of this country is not of that mindset. So just b/c a few people make the most noise, doesn't mean they speak for a majority of the people. Cheers to Bush!

I don't think that was Kerry's problem. Look at the margin of victory, it's a few percentage points. Those votes could certainly have been people who thought Kerry wasn't strong enough, or he changed his mind too often, or whatever. His beliefs from a stronger candidate might have won.

Yup. This is what is about. That OR ditch the social justice issues and try to get fiscal conservatives on board.

My advice:

Make sure the words "Jesus" and "Christ" are on the ticket.

Make sure he speaks with a southern accent.

Where to find another Bill Clinton?

Did he just appear out of nowhere? Seems like.

Put a hispanic on the ticket in 08. It's the only way to take states like Florida.

OP: I dunno, it really depends on the next 4 years, IMO. If they are generally perceived as bad, all the Democrats have to do is simply run anyone except a radical (Sharpton, Clinton, etc) and I think they'll have an easy victory. Otherwise, it will be another close race.

I expect Jeb Bush to be the Republican candidate in 2008, anyone know of a reason why this won't happen ?

What great ideas! Ditching social justice would be exactly the wrong idea. Social Justice -- the words speak for themselves. We're about to suffer through four more years of social INjustice from bunch of messianic religious zealots more concerned with spreading their "word" and their anal "values" than living by the words of love, brotherhood, tolerance and peace taught by their alleged "savior." "Christians" like George W. Bush are the reason I always root for the Lions.

I also have to wonder how a "Fiscal Conservative" would squander a surplus into a multi-trillion dollar deficit by starting an elective war. War may become necessary due to external causes, but an elective war based on lies is NOT fiscally, ethically or morally "conservative" by any defintion, and you can piss and moan all you want about "tax and spend liberals," but that is nowehere near as UNconservative as spending money without providing a revenue base to support it.

Because by 2008 Bush may be so reviled by a large percentage Americans that anybody with the Bush last name wouldn't stand a chance.

If anything this will push the left farther to the fringe as is well needed.
The right is heading for fascism at breakneck speed with no holds barred now.
Now know how the average german felt when you know who got elected chancellor
and had to sit back and watch it all fall apart.

I think Gephardt would have done better than Kerry this year. He would have at least carried MO, and probably OH and IA because he is mid-westerner.

Really? This Bush has won the highest percentage of popular vote since 1988. Who did it then? Another Bush. Get a clue....

Jesus, I'm hating that damn quote from Andy Card already...Bush's popular vote margin of victory, except for 2000, is the lowest of any victor since 1976. Margin of victory is what matters the most, since total percentage of popular vote depends on how many votes go to third party candidates.

In plain English, Bush beat Kerry less than any winner has beaten the 2nd place candidate since 1976 (other than in 2000, which was just weird).

The Left does not need to move anywhere the country needs to get educated again being aware of politics is not "cool" anymore so people vote their religion.
Not surprising how we have being fed this dividing BS fromthe corprate media day after day. (neo-fascists on the radio day after day does not help either.)
Disinformation is the enemy here not an ideology.

Your application does nothing to disprove that he is the first President since 1988 to have a majority vote. >50% There was a third party candidate when the Clinton won 1996. There was a third party candidate on Nov. 2.

In plain English Bush has the first majority vote (>50%) since 1988.

Yeah with almost half the country voting against him!

I thought of that too. I expect if anything bad happens it will be Bill Clinton's fault. Or if that doesn't work Jeb can come out in favor of Baptism or something, making a large percentage of voters think they have to vote for him or the Satanic Democrats will outlaw Baptism.
