HELLO! you'd fail your drivers' test if you were going slow in the fast lane... if you are not passing, KEEP RIGHT.

other than that, I couldn't care less if you go 55 in a 55.. just not in the passing lane.
Since when is speeding allowed in any lane? I can't imagine how you passed your drivers test.

Not keeping right is a violation of traffic law in most areas.

umm just because it is the "Passing" lane doesnt give you the right to speed in it....... You would fail your drivers test if you went 65 in a 55 because it was the passing lane.....

So according to this thread, you would fail your driver's test if:

a. You drive at the speed limit in the passing lane because you will be holding people up.
b. You drive over the speed limit in the passing lane because you are speeding.

Which means that's it's basically illegal to be in the passing lane.
You're not holding anyone up ILLEGALLY if you're driving the speed limit in the passing lane. You should only be there if someone in the right lane is going under the speed limit.

yes, but be reasonable in terms of being in the passing lane.. taking 5 miles to pass because you are afraid to go 1 mile over is retarded. you are generally allowed to go 120 here in canada in the passing lane as long as you deek over to the right once you pass and slow down back to 110 or so. (speed limit 100kph)

But then again, this was in PA. Nobody in PA can think. Or drive.
Gee THANKS.

It's a known fact. There's a reason the "WELCOME TO PA" sign says "Drive carefully" - if you aren't paying attention, one of them WILL kill you.
I APPRECIATE your sweeping generalization.

Ask anyone that's ever driven though NY/NJ/PA but doesn't live there. None of you fsckers know how to drive. And in PA, that's prettymuch a given, you don't even require drivers ed.

I didn't have to pass anyone for one thing.. and I only would have passed if they were going less than the speed limit.. not hard.

That makes no logical sense. As soon as you cross over into Ohio people are more educated about driving? Sure, maybe some states require drivers ed, but news flash, that doesn't make them all better drivers.

People will complain about stupid drivers in ANY state. And on the drivers ed note, I don't know of any high schools that don't have it as a required course...

You claimed you would fail your drivers test if you were going "slow" in the passing lane, which is bs. Though I understand what you're getting at.

Actually...it does. The left lane is there for people who choose to drive faster than the speed limit, or rather, faster than other people, thereby having to pass other people. It isn't you or anyone elses job to tell me or keep me from going as fast as I want to go.

What? It is the truth...thats how it should be at least. Nothing pisses me off more than idiots who stay in the left lane and insist that they are going fast enough, while other behind them want to go faster, but are forced to pass on the right.

What did they expect from an antique truck covered in dents and other assorted damage on temporary tags?

This is why we need flashing message boards on the back of cars: "All dick, no balls".

Where you were going, is still breaking the letter of the law, just to make sure were clear on that.

The speed limit is the speed limit, passing lane or not. Sure you can choose to break the limit. When you get pulled over for speeding, telling the officer that you were in the passing lane and that means it's ok to speed will just get you a laugh and a ticket.

either way, if someone looks in their mirror and sees a car that wants to pass, they should make an effort to get out of the way. it's not only etiquette and being respectful of others, but it makes the highway flow smoother!

you WILL get pulled over if you do this for a cop. buddy of mine was doing 65 in a 65, he had slowed down because he had seen the rollers in his rear view mirror (no lights yet). he was going around a semi and the cop came up behind him at a brisk pace so he sped up to get out of his way, not going much over 70 in the process and the cop pulled him over for the reason of speeding. 72 in a 65

drivers etiquette my arse, 1 ticket per hour "quota" more like it

Come on Sampson, give me more credit than that. Of course I realize that the speed limit is the same regardless of the lane...but other drivers shouldn't dictate to me what speed I should be going by driving just the speed limit in the passing lane and not getting over when I am coming up on them at an obviously faster speed.

I guess I just didn't word what I said correctly.

Sure, but he didn't understand what I was trying to say. I guess that was my fault. Basically, other drivers shouldn't dicate to me what the correct speed is. If I want to go 75 in a 65, they shouldn't stop me, however, some drivers don't know what they are doing, and decide to stay in the left lane because for some reason they think they are going fast enough, and that I should just deal with it. At least..that is what I assume they are thinking.

Actually this isn't true. While it is true that speeding, even in the passing lane is illegal, most if not all states have laws about not driving and/or yielding to faster traffic in the passing lane.

Much like the people who failed to see the obvious in the thread about the 12 year old who was chased under a car, you are failing to see that one illegal action does not somewhow magically make another illegal action vanish as though reality were somehow to disappear in a puff when contacted with a kernel of anti-reason.

There was even a recent thread here in OT about certain states beginning to aggressively enforce this law. Shame you missed it.

I do, because I'm that guy that goes 130 all the time on the highways around here
it's actually pretty much with the flow though, so I don't worry.

It seems to me, based on the fact that EVERY traffic thread degenerates into the same argument about the proper use of the left lane, that nobody ever tells you what the rules really are.

I think if the police were watching and everyone knew it, the entire highway would be going the same speed as the person leading the way in the right hand lane. LOL!

you are right, apparently we really do not know how to properly use both lanes of the highway (or more than 2 lanes for that matter)
