Some help on an upgrade please

Hi guys

Im looking to upgrade in the next few weeks and wondered if you guys could give me a little help , at the moment my systems spec are

xp2400 over clocked to xp 2600
asus a7n8x non delux
2 x 256 crucial pc2700 and 1 x 512 crucial pc2700 ram
80gb seatgate 7200 and 40gb seagate 7200 hard drives
ati9600 ( not pro or se)

iv not go a lot of money at the moment but was going to put most of what i do have into
a realy good amd socket 939 motherboard and a 64 bit 3000 cpu, im not realy a gamer so a top spec pci express graphics card isnt needed (got an xbox for games lol) , regarding the mem would i get away with what i have at the moment ?? i know pc3200 would be better but if it will do i will make do with it for now , what im realy after is for u guys to tell me what performance increase i will see going from an xp2400 to a 64 bit 3000??

in average windows tasks, your not going to see that much difference, in gaming the athlon64's are a lot faster, in specific apps like photoshop/ winrar/ video encoding the 64's will also pick apart the k7's

see how much you can sell your cpu/ mobo and videocard and work from there

picking up an epox EP-9NPA+Ultra (108) + amd64 3000 (135-145) retail + videocard it depends on how much you can spend, the x600 is equivalent to the 9600 ( x700 pro was 105 on newegg i think)

your probably fine with the ram assuming you can get it to run in dual channel

you should be able to get 150ish for your stuff, for 2 bills its a good upgrade

you should also have a decent psu, a 300/350watt from a good company is fine, a generic might run into some problems

dude don't get that trash.

AMD XP's are almost close to the price of AMD Athlon 64's.
If you don't get the DX, the mobo sucks.
Get DDR400, no reason you shouldn't, or even DDR2 if you want it.
2x512 sticks, why 256 sticks? rip off and waste of slots.
40GB drives are overpriced. For 10 dollars more, you can double the space.
Make sure your drives are SATA compatible, IDE sucks today.
Non-Pro's are no fun. You can get a 9600 Pro for 70 or 80 bucks, same price nearly. Also don't get the 256mb versions. 128 for a 9600 Pro is absolutely fine.

With getting a $130 AMD64, you not only future proof you system for x64, but it will perform much better than an XP.

Cheers coomar just what i wanted to here, what cpu will i need to see a good performance increase in windows???

Valkerie dont know if you have picked me up wrong but that was my current setup not the one im thinking about getting . regarding the graphics as i said im no big gamer so its not realy that important , the 9600 will have to get sold as it will be a board with pci express i will be getting..
