Around 5 am this morning, my dad noticed that my brothers glove box light was on in his jeep. He went out there, only to find the glove box ripped apart and all my brothers cds gone .. He had about 200 cd's in two big booklets. We are usualy pretty good about locking our doors, but one of his locks is jammed and sometimes doesnt fully lock, thats how the punks probaly got in. My car was parked behind his and was luckly locked. It's wierd that they didnt take anything else, brand new shoes, or the cd player. Anyways, I have setup a wireless video camera hooked up to my tv and can now see everything thats going on outside. I have a pretty good idea on who took the cd's, but if they come back, the vcr is running tonight.

Same thing happened to me except they smashed my window open. Await replies about how it is your brothers fault.

It's not his fault, but he should know better than to leave 200 cds, new shoes, etc. in a car that sometimes doesn't lock.

That's one of the reasons I used lossless FLAC encoding for my music server -- aside from instant access to 900 CDs (so far), it also functions as a 100% CD quality backup of my collection.

Sorry to hear about it though, I'd hate to lose 200 of my CDs.

Original cd's belong in the house under lock and key.

Burned ones belong in the car.

someone broke into my car and stole my cd/mp3 receiver. But they left the cable connecting to the receiver behind.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I had my HU and 2x 8" subs stolen in '98, damn crackheads :| However, I have to question why he'd have 200 CDs in the car instead of a DAP, which he could easily take with him into the house. If I drove enough to care I'd certainly get at least a cheap flash-based DAP and patch it into my HU somehow.

I do the same with any CD I buy. I doubt anyone will steal them, but CD's in cars always take a beating. Much better to have a $0.10 CD-R take the abuse than a $12 original.

Anyway, it would probably help if you put some new CDs in the jeep to make it worthwile for them to come back and try again.

My dad called the cops at around 8 am. The disbatcher said they got tons of calls today about this. The cop came around 6 pm to look at the car and wrote the report. We spoke to 4 neighboors and they all had there cars went through, most with nothing taken. My parents insurance is paying for 100 cd's @ 8.25 a piece, plus if he decides to rebuy any cd's, if he mails them the reciepts, he gets another 8.25 up to 100. I doubt he'll get any cd's back, but I am glad hes going to get some money. The police are very aware of whats going on and are defilty looking out tonight.

Same, even though with the last 2 cds I bought I haven't made copies yet. Like you, I'm not worried about them getting stolen, just abused.

Sorry to hear about the CDs being stolen, I'd be pissed if my cds were stolen, I love my music.

Home owner. We have been in this house for 20 years and never made a claim, my dad said the guy was real nice, understood the situition and they said they are going to pay for 100 cds now.

20 yrs without claim. wow, the insurance compnay must love you guys. So your brother is gonna get $800. here is what he can do. Buy a DAP player for $300 and use the rest $500 to download 500 albums at allofmp3. so his gain > loss.

Totally sucks.

After reading a post here on ATOT a few months ago, I burned the six CDs that I keep in my car.

My ex lost her company laptop and a new leather coat that she left in her car after coming to visit me one weekend. She had too many things to carry and decided that it'd be oaky because the stuff was on the floor behind the driver's seat.

They broke three side windows... which seemed excessive because they only needed to break one to get in, right?

To add further pain to the situation, the alarm didn't go off because she had forgotten to lock the door!

Doesn't sound like they needed to break any windows to get in.
