Somethings Wrong? 20-66 degrees

I think something is wrong here. When I boot my computer up its around 22 degrees celcius(with the onboard CPU temp and BIOS readings).. after a while and I reboot my computer,.. its around 65 degrees celcius.. What the hell?

I'm using a thermal right SK6 with my Athlon 1.4 TB. Though, I;m using some cheap Radioshack thermal compound.(I was desperate, no compound and my CPU was right next to me). I've been running like this for I guess close to a year now. It just scared the heck out of me.

Yeah, 66 sounds pretty high, even for the hot-running 1.4! There's lots of possibilities here: case cooling, room temperature, thermal compound, etc, etc. My T-Bird 1.4 is running in the mid to upper 40's under heavy load with an average hsf (Taisol). As you mentioned, using better thermal compound would probably help - I used Artic Silver. Case cooling made a big difference - a much bigger difference than I would have imagined. At any rate, pass along some more info and I'm sure the folks on this forum who know much more than I can probably help. Good luck.

Check to see if the thermal compound is dried up and be sure to have the right amount (0.003"). Also make sure that the HSF is firmly in contact with the CPU.

Hi, thx for replying.

Exactly how much is 0.003" lol, that sounds very little. How would i measure that?. I actually slobbered a lot of thermal compound onto the core thinking it would be best. How much should I had put on?. Like a very very thin coat? Didn't think that little would actually do anything
