If they are saying home by Friday, this is going to be one long week for you. I remember when my daughter was born, she was jaundiced and it was 4 days before we could go home. I am in no means comparing my situation to yours, just saying that the need and want to go home is quite overwhelming. Everything can finally get back to normal once under your own roof.

I hope you can get her out of there sooner...

Glad to hear surgery went well. Good luck on a quick recovery. I don't know if I could handle going through what you have been through. :'(

Great news:awe:

We went through the ICU before our birth and your right it's amazing. Kaela turned 3 months on Friday and my wife just called me at work saying she just rolled over on her own... you are going to have so much fun:biggrin:

Hard to say. It has to stay in until her lungs are fully functional, which the docs think will be tonight. Once that happens, we will transition from continuous feeding through the tube to bolus feelings (larger amounts at one time), and then she we will work to transition back to eating by mouth. Docs do not expect her to suddenly taken in all the calories she needs by mouth, so the plan is to reintroduce the bottle slowly, and give any residual amount to her via the tube. Hopefully she will leave the hospital without the feeding tube, but it would not be terrible if she had to have it for a bit longer.

Gotcha, and the more calories the better, as far as helping her to heal. You've got a special girl. I'll be thinking of you and yours.

I hope the best for you folks. My mom was the head nurse in an NICU for 25 years. Your daughter is in good hands.

Chin up. There's bound to be a few bumps in the road. Soon enough, you'll be home with your little one.

Best wishes for a *speedier* recovery.

things are looking up. And I agree about the ICU doing amazing things. Our twins were a bit premature (36 weeks) and needed help breathing so they were in the NICU for a few days but we weren't terribly worried... just precautionary. What did worry us was they were born and didn't breathe for quite a few seconds... none of the normal crying either... the 2nd little guy was rushed away asap. My wife had pre-term labor at 30 weeks prior so worry was nothing new. I am usually optimistic so that helped me through both situations and I didn't really tell my wife about the not-breathing thing as she had just gone through an intensive labor (naturally birthing twins is no easy feat). She was in her own world for a while. A few minutes later the doc told us it should be ok and they'd be in the NICU a few days. While visiting them we saw other premies who were so small you'd never think they would survive but they were fighting. The attention each newborn gets is amazing.

Everything is great with the boys today... pessimism never gets people anywhere. You will smile spending every moment with her once she's in the clear.

I'm glad she is well on her way to a speedy full recovery. Kids are so much tougher and resilient than we give them credit. It's difficult to see your own child in the hospital and not being able to do much for them. I hope your whole family get home soon and enjoys this summer outdoors.
