I hope not. As Trump is on Congressional grounds he can be placed in the Congressional jail with the Secret Service making sure he is safe from physical harm

The Secret Service would also protect the President from arrest. Such action would simply not be allowed.

The best outcome is if Trump attempts to enter, but finds his path blocked.

Trump sent a letter to Pelosi today stating that he will give his address in the House on the 29th. There is only the minor problem of that being impossible until the House passes a joint resolution inviting him, which it has not. I think the house sergeant at arms and Capitol Police can physically bar him from the chamber if need be.

I'd say this is evidence of him thinking he's a king, but (in Britain at least) the monarch isn't even allowed to enter parliament without invitation.

That would be an unlawful act on the part of the Secret Service. They cannot usurp the powers of the House. Their role is not to subvert the Constitution nor law, but to protect the President from physical harm and that's it. Naturally, they could escort the President to jail and safeguard him, but the moment they exceed their mandate by usurping the powers of Congress they become criminals under US law if they interfere with non violent arrest.

This is the specific charge to the Secret Service under 18 U.S. Code § 3056

"The President, the Vice President (or other officer next in the order of succession to the Office of President), the President-elect, and the Vice President-elect."

That's it. There's no protection from lawful arrest- at all. Again they would naturally protect Trump from physical harm. To do that they can restrain the President from harming himself and escort him to jail where they can provide security, delivering the jail mandated food themselves, even watch over its preparation.

But the Secret Service is not one of the Shah or Saddam. They protect, not serve him and above all else is the protection of the Constitution, even above Trump's comfort.

So things are going well when we must debate if the USSS will exceed its authority and aid the president in the commission of a crime and shield him from arrest.

I am sure unpaid USSS agents are not too eager to be Trump's jack-booted thugs.

Pelosi can adjourn the session until the following day, order the premises locked & the Dems can spend a night with the family. Trump can give his speech to the GOP caucus if he wants. Well, if they can get in.

On behalf of all the people Trump is screwing & trying to screw- Screw you, Donnie. Find a different venue for the hate & lies.

AFAIK, the SS can't protect him from being arrested, but they can shoot if weapons are drawn on POTUS. That's it.

Welp Pelosi just sent a letter to the WH stating that the House will not take up the concurrent resolution until the government opens. So no speech in the House chamber.

Even if SS protects him from arrest, that doesn't apply to others trying to enter the House chamber, including the media. So he can give SOTU speech to the his USSS detail.

He's probably going to call a special session, citing extraordinary circumstances, under Article 2.
But that only gets Congress in session, doesn't say anything about him giving a SOTU.

Not sure what he thought would happen there.
In his mind it was win-win: either Nancy caves and he wins or she doesn't cave and he portrays this as the Democrats being lying meanies depriving all good Americans the treat of listening to his great words.

It will probably now take place in front of the border with only the military attending all in MAGA hats and munching on cold quarter pounders.

He may yet march in. There is one thing Pelosi might do short of confrontation, and that is ban all recording devices and literally turn off all the lights. Trump can speak in the dark, which is pretty much what he does anyway. I'd still refuse him entry.

First lady Melania Trump has been inviting guests to the State of the Union, she added, and if Pelosi disinvites them, “then she’s going to have some explaining to do.”
Ugh, right, Melania still exists.

Isn't that just the House of Lords? I don't think Queenie can even enter the House of Commons, period.

"The Dems have become radicalized" hahaha

Really? Have they taken 800,000 fed employees and their families hostage? Do you seem them giving the constitution the finger over Emoluments? How about eroding checks and balances?

Oh you silly orange fvck, keeping projecting that fail, no one but your shrinking crowd of lemmings buys it.

Except the HOR isn't adjourned. The Speaker can call an end to the day's session at their whim.

That's the thing. Even if he did show up ready to give a speech, there would be no one there (except for the media to watch the trainwreck). It's not like everyone would be there sitting around waiting for the president, when he isn't supposed to be coming.

This was an amazing move by Pelosi.
