Sound Card Questions

Hello,

I'm having an issue with audio lag running an RCA cable from my Rane TT54 mixer into my Win 7 PC using an HT Striker 7.1 sound card and I'm looking for some help.

When I'm playing music through the Rane mixer into the PC there is a noticeable 1/2 second lag which makes it almost impossible to mix and record anything. I have also tried using the on board audio and I run into the same problem.

I'm wondering if the issue could be because the RCA run from the mixer to the PC is around 10-12 feet? I have updated drivers and worked with HT to try and troubleshoot the issue but nothing has worked. Unfortunately I can't move the PC any closer to the mixer to shorten the RCA run with my current configuration.

I'm also wondering if anyone has any experience with USB sound cards? I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T430s that I could use, but the built in mic/headphone combo jack works great for headphones, but it doesn't seem to work as a mic input. I was thinking about buying a small usb sound card and trying that as it would allow me to put the laptop next to the mixer and use a much shorter RCA cable.

Any advice would be appreciated.

do a reinstall of the drivers of the card, just to be sure, and in the meanwhile get help from the manufacturer, http://www.htomega.com/help.html

possibly some W7 setting (such as what component to process the sound with) causing the signal to be routed incorrectly, because your latency should be around 5ms.

as for USB i/o cards, i would stay away, afaik firewire, thunderbolt and PCI are the only viable connections due to inherent latency in the slower USB.

but then again i've been out of the loop for a while, maybe USB3 is different now.

Thanks for the info. I spent some time working with the vendor a while back. They were helpful but we were not able to fix the problem. One thing they mentioned was to verify if there might be an IRQ conflict if the sound card is sharing with another device. They recommend trying to isolate the card on it's own channel, which I have tried but cannot seem to do.

Some further reading on IRQ conflicts seems to indicate that they are a thing of the past and not something to be concerned about anymore. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, the last time I formatted my system I installed only the necessary drivers and the audio drivers and I was still having the same problem.

After looking at your list of hardware I'd say that your having a driver conflict. I would try to remove some of your hardware and uninstall the drivers. I think the NVIDIA has sound drivers, as well as the Hauppauge and the Striker.
