Sound from all speakers...

My laptop has a 2.1 onboard soundcard but i wish to get sound from all 5 of my speakers (Logitech x-350). My friend has an old ass pc from walmart (which would probably have a 5.1 at MOST), and he managed to somehow get sound from 11 speakers. I asked him how he did it and he said someone about setting up stereo or something. I've lost touch with him over the years so I have no idea now.

Now, i dont care about surround sound or whatnot, i just want all my speakers to work. Does anyone know of a way i can do so without having to buy a $80 external card that does 5.1 sound? I'm willing to buy any cables and what not if that's the solution.

Sorry if that's a bit confusing..

Summary: how do i get all my speakers working when I have a 2.1 soundcard.

Have you gotten into the "sounds and audio devices properties" (under control panel), and "advanced," and see if you have chosen 5 speakers?

If you have already done that and it still doesn't work, perhaps 2.1 doesn't support 5 speakers?

I had the same problem trying to get all 5 speakers working on my laptop. The closest i could get was 4 speakers working with a (1)male to (2)female 1/8in headphone splitter. As far as i know that is about as close as you will come to 5.1 unless you buy an external sound card.

harle, that's really helpful thanks.

Could you link to to what you used or something similar??

And also, the speakers you used, did you have a sub for it or was it just 5 speakers?

Reason I ask is because I have to connect the speakers to the sub first.

I dont know why it took me so long to find the cable, but here it is:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009J.../104-2129317-6163926?v=glance&n=172282

mine is exactly like this. Oh, and i also have the x-350's, so what ends up happening is your front two and back 2 speakers go in quadraphonic sound(just like stereo sound), and the sub works also. Just hook the green and black cables from your speakes into the 2 female ends of the cable, then put the male end into your headphone jack. Im guessing you already knew this, but im just elaborting in case you dont.

The cable is pretty cheap, and you could probably find it at your local store if you do not want to buy it online.
