SoundBlaster Live! Question....

This may sound like a stupid thing to do, but here it is:

My Father-in-Law would like me to "burn" his songs from his cassette tapes to a CD-R. The songs will be played as the instrumental part as he sings the vocals live (for church, etc.). Obviously sound quality is NOT his concern here.

I have a PlexWriter 12/10/32 and the SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer.

Can I do it?
If so, how do I do it?

I was thinking that I could possible hook a cassette tape player to one of the inputs on the SB Live! card and record to my hhd, then burn to disk....

yeah you just hook the phono plug of the cassette player into the input of the sb live - and then record the input. once you have it to wav format you can then burn it to cd.

Yes, you can do that.

1. Connect the tape deck line out to the SB Live line in.
2. Use windows "Sound Recorder" to record the tapes in WAV format
3. Use your burner software (Nero or Adaptec?). Choose an Audio CD format. Then drag the WAV files over. Burn.
4. Done!

The only tricky part is the recording. Here is one tip. Double click the little speaker icon on the lower right of your desktop (next to the clock). Do the "Options" , "Properties" and then click the recording button. Make sure the line-in is checked. That makes sure you are recording from the correct source.

Exactly. Make sure you 'digitize' at 44Hz (48Hz)/16bit, you may also want to apply a noise filter with an Audio studio program (CoolEdit or better) before burning to CDR (but this would require tweaking the filter for each track).
