They study/teach to the test to the point that students don't have time to devote "real education", things that can come handy in the real world.
Wrong. In Japan, at least, you're expected to literally learn on the job instead of getting advanced degrees (beyond undergrad). That is why the Japanese study extremely hard to get into the top schools and then don't take their lessons seriously once they are there. College is considered party time in Japan. A lot of people take it seriously but most don't. The next serious time is when choosing a place to work. Your first job is expected to be your last so it is extremely important. And you are expected to take it extremely seriously. I've known people to permanently stop talking to their girlfriends once they started working. Even families take a back seat. And when you meet someone they introduce themselves by stating Company name, Last name, and First name, in that order.
