Yep paying for heat in June sucks says someone up in the PNW.

At least it was only for a few days when that heat dome fucked the PNW last year. Our's was here for a month and a half from mid May to the end of June, went away for a couple of days where temps dropped into the high 90s, and now a new one built up and is going to fuck us with temps of 103-107 today through Monday before dropping off to 101 on Tuesday. Unless a major hurricane strikes we're going to be 100+ pretty much through mid September after May was mostly high 90s to low 100s and June was mostly 99 to mid 100s.

It's very unusual. You'll get stretches of 100s but then broken up by mid 90s and sometimes low 90s, but this year the break is when we only hit 98 or 99. Getting over 102 usually happens a couple of times a year, mid July through mid August. We have already been over 102 a few times by early July. Our typical summers this last ten years or so average about 18 days over 100 and we had 17 in June. Imagine we'll see no less that 25 for July. Our record for days over 100 in a year is 59 and we're already almost halfway there before even hitting the typical hot part of the year. Unless a major hurricane blows in in August we're going to crush that record of 59 days over 100.

We had the hottest May ever recorded here followed by the hottest June ever recorded here, and July looks even worse. We got virtually no rain in May and minimal rain in June when May is often one of the rainier months here. We haven't had an inch of rain in San Antonio for like 155 days now. No rain in spring means we heat up like hell in summer. And May having 100s is very weird. Have lived through 35 summers in San Antonio and this is by far the worst I have ever seen through this part of July, with no reason to expect it to get any better this month or next.

Also as a side note about how much global warming is fucking us, we averaged 3-4 days over 100 a year back in the 1890s when this record keeping started. I think I read a paper the other day saying by either 2040 or 2060 we'll be adding another 13 100+ degree days to our summer in the best case, another 25 if we continue doing absolutely nothing to combat global warming.

I have seen some very ugly summers in San Antonio, with 2011 and 2009 being the worst. Until this summer. This makes 2011 and 2009 look tame.

Ugh 30th day of 2022 over 100 today in San Antonio. The record is 59, which we will absolutely shatter since we have 23 days left of July which will mostly be 100+ and 31 days of August, which is the hottest month of the year in San Antonio, plus all of September. Only having 70 days of 100+ here this year would be a miracle, 80 seems way more likely and 90 doesn't seem out of the question if we're not hit by a major hurricane in South Texas. We're more than halfway to our record and haven't even hit the historically hot part of the year, which promises to be extremely hot since we had a rainless spring.

Lol. At this point summer ends around Oct 15th for most of the south/south east. Central Kentucky was still on simmer at 100 the first week of October when we left in 2019.

No, I'm expecting another 55-65 days over 100, depending on if we actually start cooling by mid September or not. July and August look pretty likely to be mostly wall to wall 100s with how extreme our drought is this year.

Also ERCOT set another record with 78,418 MW demand today at 5PM, breaking Tuesday's record. Demand is forecast to be around 80,000 MW tomorrow so we'll set our third record this week. And maybe again Monday when the forecast is for 107 here. Also a humid 107 like how today was a humid ass 102. Fuck this summer.

Historical average temperature this time of year = 94. No way we're not routinely getting around 110 by early to mid August which is the really hot part of the year normally.

Weather's great where I live. A consequence of that is it's expensive to live here!!! Over the years I've learned to be hell of frugal by virtue of that. I tell myself I can manage even with the hellish inflation (fixed income). Just spend less. That mantra is something I'm used to. It does get old though, like a friend told me many years ago. I usually try to buy at a good price, whatever it is. I fix stuff instead of replacing. Do stuff myself instead of hiring. Bike instead of driving. In spite of the frugality I like to treat myself to something occasionally ... it keeps the spirits up!

Man, it's heated up here but nothin' like that. I make weak lemonade. I buy lemons, juice them and freeze in ice cube trays and from there to quart plastic container in the freezer. I drop one of those in 20oz ice water and add the tiniest pinch of stevia (1/16th teaspoon). Especially great after one of my 10 miles skates (pretty much daily).

Wow had a thunderstorm pop up and immediately drop us 20+ degrees and now it's in the mid 80s. Didn't rain much but felt amazing to go stand out in it.
