When I was back there in May, I realized the only things I miss are fireflies and thunderstorms. Still absolutely worth it! I actually found myself missing winter because I like hiking through the forest when it's all shrouded in mist. But now I don't hate doing yardwork anymore during the summer because I'm not sweating my arse off.
As someone who grew up in the east, that's one of the things I miss the most, lightning bugs and more melodic song birds. Nothing like a mocking bird or wood thrush out this way. Noisey Stellar's jays or crows.

I guess this implies that the contiguous 48 are entirely inside the lower erogenous zone and the west coast is just an absolute dump truck of an ass?

Mmm mmm mmmmmm hawt

No kidding. The birds around here...to say it politely... are assholes. There is no quiet. Only CAW CAW CAW starting around 5am. Then the jays kick in that sounds like metal screaching across metal. And then this little poofball birb that sounds like a 1950's sci-fi phaser gun charging up. tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tweeet tweeet tweet and repeat that about 50 times an hour.

It depends. I’m on a 3 year all green plan at 11.7 cents/kWh. They can’t charge me more.

It’s really to influence commercial providers to turn on their generators and for commercial users paying market rates to turn stuff off.

There were some residential users who used a market rate provider and during th winter storm last year got hit with $10K+ bills.
Is this the Texas 'green plan'?

I live in a state that plays nicely with others, so our power is reliable, and my rate is 10.6¢/KWh

Talking about the the term "Texas Grid"... outside the world of electric power, the Texas precinct grid makes Ector and Midland County precincts look like an assault riffle.

Finally had our first sub 100 day of July, think it got to like 93 which feels like 73 after a bunch of 105+ days. Back to 105 Wed through Friday though with 102 this Sunday. Might stay under 100 tomorrow.

The high for this month, per my weather station, is 87.6 °F. Had my weather station up since 2005, and the max temp for July was in 2008, when it was 92.3 °F.

Man, I do feel sorry for folks in the Southwest who cannot relocate, but don't have the finances to secure a dependable source of water.

Depending on how deep one has to dig, how expensive this is and whether the water can be made usable and drinkable.

Huzzah for well water.

I'm at a point where I don't know sarcasm anymore.

The wells are dry. 1000 feet no water. $40k-$70k for that kind of drilling.

I used to have a 450 foot well that was drilled right into an aquifer. It was caustic (salty) and depending on where exactly it was very sulfuric. It smelled bad. It tasted bad. It had to be treated into oblivion. RO process to make it drinkable wastes 4 gallons for every 1 you can drink. Which just further exacerbates a water shortage problem.

It's bad. And just going to get worse. The Atlantic current is almost dead and la Nina pattern is going to be more normal. This is going to last.

Sorry, I meant hurrah for me having well water. We get constant runoff heading into a major lake, and while it's terrible with sulfides we've never had shortage issues even in drought conditions.

Back to 102 again in San Antonio after a couple of days in the 90s, bringing us to 37 days over 100 this year when the record is 59 in a year and we're still two weeks from the hottest part of the year (eg August 1st through around August 20th). And weather.com has us 101 or higher for the rest of the month. Ugh this fucking summer is ridiculous.
