There was a heatwave in the NYC area when I was in Greece but got back and it's in the 80's and lower humidity. Back to a real nice summer again. For now.

Turns out July 2022 was the hottest month ever recorded in San Antonio, whether judging by number of days 100+ (29), hottest average temperature (90.0), or hottest average high temperature (101.55). Ugh fuck this month. Wonder if August will be worse. Not a promising start with midweek looking to be around 103.

Forecast 100 tomorrow, then 100+ all the way next week around Austin, with 106 on Wednesday.

There is supposed to be a small chance of rain next weekend. Gonna be muggy as hell during the tax free weekend.

Looks like the Saharan dust will keep San Antonio from getting that high, we're forecast to be 103.

This is the nicest forecast I have seen for San Antonio since early June, seriously. I would legit be thrilled if this ends up being the actual weather through the 19th. Because usually August is our worst month and by a large margin, but this is way nicer than our June was much less our horrible July this year.

High of 37c (98f) yesterday in So. New Hampshire. Heat index, 1-3 degrees higher between the coast and well inland. Better today, but with higher humidity. I have no idea how peeps can live in the hot humid southern states.

@Captante are you melted yet?

Getting there lol....

Yesterday late afternoon was brutal with roughly 90% humidity plus 94f with baking sunshine and no breeze.... kept the bedroom AC running all day so I could take breaks.

However the only real difference I'm seeing between this year and hot summers of the past is that it no longer cools off significantly after the sun goes down. (anyone trying to sleep without AC must be in rough shape!)

Even in a very "snowy" winter around here (Connecticut) we're talking like 2 weeks total of actual "snowy" weather these days and substantially less then that for snow-covered roads.

When I was a kid it was the "frozen tundra" in January New England.... not so much anymore. (now its all "mud-season")

Worst summer in 11 years.

2022 already has only one day less of 100+ than 2011 did for San Antonio and we still have 3 1/2 weeks of August plus September left. 2022 is making 2011 look nice in comparison, especially because 2022 started getting really hot in May. Hell it was hot enough in April that ERCOT was concerned about rolling blackouts then and issued conservation orders for one of the weekends.

I really hate when weather forecasts use relative humidity numbers. 90% relative humidity at 94F would be a heat index of 141F and a dewpoint of 91F, when the highest dewpoint ever recorded in the US is 90F in Florida. Relative humidity changes wildly with temperature and once you start getting in the 100s relative humidity only needs to be in the 30s to feel disgustingly sticky and humid. For instance, 35% relative humidity at 105F is a really nasty dewpoint of 72F.

Dew point is the unambiguous way to tell someone how muggy it feels. Dewpoints in the 40s are really nice, like crisp mountain air. Dewpoints in the 50s are still comfortable. Dewpoints in the 60s feel humid. Dewpoints in the 70s feel like you're swimming in the air. Dewpoints in the 80s are downright oppressive and dangerous. Even getting a constant gulf wind in the San Antonio area we only seem to get dewpoints in the low 80s a couple of times a year, always in early morning hours before sunrise.

And yeah our nighttime lows are increasing even faster than our daytime highs in Texas.

Far as exact temps and humidity I'm mainly going by what I see on my phone.... could be total nonsense.

I can however tell you for certain that it was 97f (!!) at the peak yesterday based on an old-school mercury thermometer I have on the wall INSIDE my apartment and the coil-based dial outside said 93f.

I have no way to measure humidity accurately but I can also tell you for certain that it was approaching "wet-bulb" territory yesterday. (ie: when sweat stops cooling)

EDIT: Right now it's 88f and (supposedly) 74% humidity. Although it's a hot day it's nothing compared to yesterday "seat of the pants".

Worth it for low taxes on your billions though.

Can't even buy a rain cloud in Texas.

I think the government needs to step in and mandate God make it rain. 🌧

I hear Joe has been talking to Pope Francis a lot.
