I have a K8USA MOBO and attempting to install Windows XP onto a Seagate 120 SATA HD. Problem is, windows does not detect the HD upon install. The drive shows up in the bios, but windows install does not see it. I have attempted to install the M5283 drivers during the install per the manual's instruction, but I only find M5228 drivers on the bundled CD. Anyone have any idea of what is going on here? I have been working on this for HOURS with no luck. PLEASE HELP ME

Further details:
Athlon64 3000+
Single Stick 512 Crucial
9800 Pro
Liteon DVD+R/DD+RW
Seagate 120GB SATA

I would assume that you are pressing F6 when prompted early in the install so that it gives you an opportunity to instal the scsi drivers. If you are and it isn't finding the correct drivers then try to get them from Soyo's website and put them on a floppy for install.

I am also considering buying this board. Any initial thoughts? How are the overclocking options in the BIOS such as memory timings, frequency and voltage adjustments, and especially the presence of both an AGP lock AND a PCI lock.

Any insight would be appreciated and good luck with your install.

Problems with SATA drives and the K8USA are evidently a known issue, wish I knew before I ordered it! I don't have SATA drives yet but I was planning on them and faulty SATA would be most unacceptable. Here's threads with users having SATA detection issues with the Dragon Black Label
AMDMB thread

Bluetooth provides info from contacts@SOYO in this thread from OCWorkbench SOYO sent Klaasman this response after seeing the video he made
Dear sir,

This problem has just been solved. I litteraly just received a notification how it should be solved. You will have to send your mainboard in for RMA. Please go to http://www.soyousa.com/rma and fill in the form using reference number 40106R01. You can also find the details on how to send your mainboard in on this webpage.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

SOYO Support.

He'd already RMA'd to Newegg and gotten another faulty board back so he was looking like he was going to use a PCI card and forget RMAing it to SOYO, but evidently they have a fix for it so try the troubleshooting advice for the jumpers and such and if that doesn't work follow the RMA proceedure. Good luck and post back how you make out as mine will behere Thursday and any good news on the SATA issue would be welcome news indeed

StarsCupChmps99, OCworkbench has a review of the K8USA link There's no PCI/AGP lock on this board either from all indications, but evidently it performs well and has very good IDE performance. TweeakTown also includes it in their skt754 shootout and it did quite well overall link

I'll also post back with my experience as well so you get some more user feedback. I use PATA drives at the moment so the SATA isn't an immediate hold up to testing at least.

Doesn't seem to be the same issue as I am having. I attempt the F6 on the windows install, but the drivers on the CD don't seem to match what the manual says to look.

It's not the identical issue, but it is yet another SATA related problem which makes the board the prime suspect. In fact, I haven't seen an end-user not have a SATA problem yet. I do agree your's may well be correctable on your end though. Do you have the latest bios, have you tried various jumper configs? Have you e-mailed SOYO tech support? This board is extremely expensive and new so not many are going to have any experience with it, you need to contact SOYO if you can't resolve the problem through conventional/generic troubleshooting

I got it resolved. Upon installing the OS, I hit F6 to install the proper Raid driver, however I was not scrolling down in the menu to see the correct driver. 5 hours wasted because I didn't hit the down arrow! It's running like a champ. Now, my biggest complaint about the board is the capacitor placement.

LMAO! That's the kind of problem that make you want to walk in front of a truck when you figure it out! Thanks for the update, I'm breathing easier now
