Hello.

I have a Soyo KT333 Dragon Lite motherboard with an AMD XP2000+ CPU in it. For CPU cooler I'm using the Thermaltake Volcano 9. My case is the Codegen 8011 with 350W AMD approved power supply. Last week I purchased the Kingston 256 DDR266 value ram from Office Depot and I'm having trouble booting. The store verified that the motherboard and CPU are operational. Yesterday I brought the RAM to work and verified that it does work. However, when I put the two together the board issues a beeping dound and immediately shuts down. The BIOS never comes up. The whole thing takes about two seconds.

Any ideas what could be wrong?
Anyone else have a similar problem?

Thanks in Advance.

Did you try clearing the CMOS?
Make sure to unplug the power when you do so.

The only other thing to try (assuming you can get that far) is to
disable Fan-Off Control (FOC) function under "PC Health Status" in BIOS

That's the biggest frustration, that I've never gotten to the BIOS. Right after I've put the system together it started exhibiting this. I have reset the CMOS. It's jumper 5 on this particular MOBO. The manual says to unplug the power and move the jumper from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3, wait at least 5 seconds and then move it back. The only thing that does is change the beeping to one long beep instead of the usual short beep followed by the same long beep. I would love to know what exactly is causing this. Is it the memory? Is it the CPU cooler? Motherboard? So that I could return the one I have and buy the right one.

Boy, it's hard for me to believe how hard this really is.

It is probably the Soyo bios that prevents a computer from starting up if it can't detect a fan on the heatsink spinning. Hit insert when booting and you can disable this option when the bios loads up.

Just tried that again. Still gives off one long beep and then shuts down right away. Could it be that the BIOS is preset for 2700 ram only and then once I boot I'll be able to reset that?

Thanks EG
