I have a Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra Mobo with a P4 1.7 Chip... Im looking for some recommended tweak settings in the BIOS. Does anyone run this board here? Or can someone point me to a site that has this type of tweak (not reviews) of this mobo? I've looked but cant find anything

Thanks!!!

Just ordered a Soyo P4S myself. Along with a P4 1.5, 512mb PC2700, etc.

It will be interesting.

i got 1.7 p4 and a p4s-ultra a few days ago...haven't had time to tweak bios settings, but so far ive gotten 1.975 ghz (116X17). Im sure the chip is just maxing out, not the fsb. Im also running the fsb at 3:4, so something like 155 mhz (310 ddr). It seemed to be stable, but was only running it lightly. I left it running prime95 about 36 hours ago...will check it when i get home. Does anyone know where an actual review of this board is? Im interested to see what the max fsb overclock they accomplished was.

Thats great to hear that you got it to over 1.9Mhz! Im curious to see if your system is stable at that rate....

Can you answer a few questions for me about setting the Soyo Combo Feature Up?

What should I set the CPURAM Ratio to for the FIRST time on boot up? Should I just go with the 1:1 setting and then make sure all the components are working correctly? If everything seems stable then would I just up the ratio to 3:4 and see if the system is stable? What other settings did you change to get your proc at 1.9Mhz?

Here are my specs: 1.7Intel, 512 Crucial PC2100 2.5T, was planning on putting the NEW Bios on P4SX_2AA3 (said it fixes a prob with the on board LAN ID LOSS, released 1/16/02.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Sorry for not responding earlier...i got the chip running at 1962 mhz now, i can't get the voltage over 1.77-.79 now...that is when set to 1.825. When i select 1.85 then it lowers back down to default. I have the 2aa2 bios on it now...it came with some funky bios that wasn't listed on soyo's site, so i had to find a little older award bios prog to flash the bios. It kept coming up with "file doesn't match your motherboard id" or something. 2aa3 didn't seem to work right after i got it flashed...it gave me some damn cmos error when it displays the system info after the boot screen. I went back to 2aa2 and that seems to be working good. Im running some crappy ddr 266 at 3:4 ratio...so it is running something like 355 mhz fine. I would recommend you do 1:1 first...make sure your cpu can handle it, then test 3:4 after that...that will rule out cpu or memory if you have instability. As far as other bios settings i really didn't change much...i left the memory timings alone and the system performance under the softmenu is normal. If you have any more questions pm...will get a lot faster response.

Well... put the system together and installed XP with no problems at all.... So my first test was to change the setting to 3:4 and right away I noticed something wrong. The keypresses in the bios were delayed and I couldnt even save and exit bios.

What do you make of this? Should I just try to set the "Fast or Turbo" setting in the bios ? My temps look ok.... CPU 45C case 33C ..... How do these temps compare to your setup?

THanks!!

I have it running at 1.9Ghz now... 112x17 and I set it to "Turbo" but I still cant set it to 3:4 CPU to DRAM ?? Can you tell me that that setting actually does? I have Crucial 266Mhz PC2100 Ram..... Also, cpu temps are still 49-51 at 100% utilization....

if you are going to go 3:4 then try leaving your memory timings at default. Don't set it to fast or turbo. Also don't use cas2...stick with 2.5...then run some benchmarks and see what you like better.

Cool... Here are my current settings. It has been running for over 24 hours now, running SETI CLI. Can you comment on the benchmark scores if you get a chance?

System Pref: Normal
CPURAM = 3:4
CPU Clock = 112 (17x112)=1904

Sandra Bench
Performance Rating: PR2276
Dry = 3660 Mips
Wet = 2352 MFlops

Mem Benchmarks
INT ALU = 1086 MB/S
Float ALU = 1102 MB/S

CPU Temp = 48c - 52c
Case Temp = 38c - 39c

Does Anyone else have this setup?

Yes I have this setup and I'm using the OEM HSF. My CPU temp goes anywhere from 48-51C and the case temp stays around 34C.

It's hard to find info and reviews on this board. Anyone found a review or faqs yet for this board? Its either too new or just crap. I'm hoping its just too new thus there is no reviews or faqs yet

OC tips? Sorry- I dont have any to give you. Is the OEM HSF okay for a few more MHZs if I overclock a little or should I dump it and get a better one? I like it bec its quiter than most fans out there.

I also recently got my P4S board. There are no reviews of the board yet because Soyo did not send out reference boards without the 'A2' revision of the chipset. You should start seeing reviews pop up very soon. I am still working on the tweaks myself and will keep you posted.

The Intel Heatsync is working great. Still temps of 48-52c at 100% util. Been running the 1.7 @ 1.9 for almost a week now nonstop.

3DMarks - 6640 (XTasy GeForce3 @200/450)

Please post some stats when you get a chance.

Thanks!

I've got my 1.7 running at 1997 mhz now with my watercooling setup on it. One thing I have noticed is that temps are usually always the same. The temps run from 42-45 with the watercooling setup. Im not sure if these boards are correctly displaying the temperatures. With the retail hs/fan I was getting from 48-52 like you guys. Im waiting a week or so and then getting a 1.8 northwood to slap on it. I wish there were some reviews for this board that push the fsb speed to the max. When I get my northwood I'll post back at what speeds I can get it to. Hopefully some reviews that test it's overclocking ability will pop up soon. Im sitting next to two machines with a 2.2 and 2.0 northwood, but I can't take them home to test out.
