Speaker for music lover....

I just wondering for those who love music + mp3 song, and sometimes play little game, which type of speaker setup is a better way to go?

2.1, 4.1, or 5.1 ??

Most people said 4.1 and 5.1 setup is better for game and movie threater, does it mean using this type of speaker setup listening to music and song is not as good as using 2.1 speaker setup??

Any opinion and suggestion in advance will be highly appreciated.

for music, 5.1 is not necessary. with respect to DTS and dolby digital and even dolby prologic, the center speaker is for dialogue.

4.1 is fine, i love that total emersion effect.

and 2.1 is fine if you don't want to spend that much.

4.1 is the best though.

Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 4.1 speaker system. They are great for MP3s.

I wanna tell you about what I did. Last year I kept my eyes peeled on Egghead. I was in the market for a good set of computer speakers. I found a deal on there for a Kenwood dolby digital home theater. It came with a receiver, 5 speakers and a powered subwoofer for $265 shipped. That's a lot of money, but I use it for my stereo as well as my computer sound. Compared to high priced computer speakers, there was just no comparison. Look on the auctions and you may get lucky too.

I love my klipsch promedia's. $250 shipped overnight from outpost. For music, excellent (NICE SUB!). I'm sure I could double it as a standard stereo... but it just lacks the multiple inputs. But DVD's on my computer anyhow, so that covers it

I really appreciate the inputs from everyone of you. I think I will just go for 4.1 setup. Klipsch is rock, but most probably will not spend that much for speaker.

Well then, the FPS2k's are a great choice if you go that route. I think the ACS56's were another possibility.

Altec Lansing ACS56. I've got'em and they are excellent. Keep in mind though, they have a higher amplification than a standard computer speaker so you may experience a low level hiss at idle. When the games are going... or playing music... the low level hiss does not seem to be present. These things are loud and clear...

CP, I've got a set of Boston Accoustics 7500 Dolby Digital speakers for sale. They are brand new in the box. I'll take $175.00 for them. They are awesome speakers.

Here's what I did: I play a lot of MP3s and a lot of games and I like it loud. I bought a Pioneer Dolby receiver with Surround that drives the speakers at 100 watts x 2 channels for front and 20 watts x 2 for rear. The SB Live! with Live!ware 3.0 supports the Dolby Surround scheme. I run the 1/8" stereo-to-RCA cable from my soundcard to the receiver. Then Monster cable to my Jensen floor-standing speakers for the front and some small KOSS speakers for the rear. There's plenty of power and plenty of boom. At high volumes I found that I needed to keep the speakers at least 3 feet from the monitor since they are not magnetically shielded and will cause the monitor to distort.

MP3s are awesome at high levels. EAX games rock! I'm almost in listening heaven ..... if I could only get my wife and neighbors to quit complaining when I play Unreal Tournament or Half Life at 3AM!!!!!!
