Speaker problem

I've got a couple of problems on some new Altec Lansing MX5021s and I wondered if any of the resident experts were able to shed any light on my best options:

The first problem is that from the moment the system is plugged into the mains the sub has a constant buzzing noise. It doesn't really sound like a noise the speaker would make, more like something electronic. Anyway, it's pretty annoying and I don't know if it's related to the second problem which is that the satellites really have a lot of hiss (primarily from the tweeters) when the system is actually turned on.

It's the same regardless of what mains socket I use (I tried a few around the house) and whether there's input or not. The hiss from the satellites isn't affected by changing the volume or bass/treble settings, except that turning the treble up high makes it a bit worse.

Anyone have any opinions on what I might be able to do about it? Does it sound like a fault or normal behaviour?

Sounds like a short or some kind of frequency change.

Make sure you speaker cables ie: power and lines are not wrapped o running near other wires...

Also check for any interference from other stuff...
For instance my cheap Radio Shack speakers get all buzzy from a paper shredder...
And if my cell is close to them when I get/make a call...
My wireless router is inches away and when heavy traffic is going across...

Thanks for the suggestions

To see if local interference was the problem I took the speakers out into the hall away from any other equipment or wires and just plugged them in to see what happened. Unfortunately the buzzing from the sub was still there and the satellites hissed just as badly too...

for your sub sounds like ground loop problem. You just need a cheap adapter from a place like radio shack for the plug that goes from sub to your electrical outlet. You put the three prong connector into one side of it. and you plug the 2 prongs on the otherside into the outlet.
