Speaker question

Can you mix different brands of speakers in a home theater setup? Say I got tw9 Yamaha floor speakers can I use a different brand for a center channel speaker?

Yep. Your amp wont know the difference between a Sony, Bose or Krell speaker. (Other then the ohm load presented to the amp...)

you definitely can, but the sensitivities of the speakers are going to be different, so you may want to adjust sound levels on your amp/ receiver. should work with no prb

Yes, you can but for sound quality reasons it's a bad idea. The three front channels should match as closely as possible so when the sound sweeps from Left --> Center --> Right there is no change in the sound stage. I would see if Yamaha makes a center channel speaker that matches you two floor speakers.

this is true...you actually should consider different brands...just go with what sounds best...but make sure the ohm load matches up...unlike car audio, home audio speakers and recievers must have the same ohms

You should try to stick with the same brand and the same series. Different brands and even different series of speakers under a certain brand have different timbres. The sound will flow better if all the speakers have the same timbre.
