I currently just use my headphones/mic for sound and ventrilo.

However, I would like to put in some speakers. If I plug speakes into back of case, then I have to keep swapping them with the headphones to use vent. My case is inside of my computer desk and not easily accessable.

If I use onboard sound, can I plug speakers into the back and plug headphones + mic into the front jacks at the sametime?

If i get a sound card, how would I do this?

Are their speakers with headphone + mic inputs I just plug into them?

any other thoughts?

Spilter cable for the headphones, and maybe an extension cable for the mic and /or the spliter from your pc if needed.

Some speaker sets have headphone and mic jacks on one of the satellite speakers (one of my sets has both and the other has just the headphone jack). If your mobo and front panel headphone jack on your case support it, they can be wired to do it (plug headphones into front panel jack and the speakers would be disconnected. Or you can use a cable from Frontx.com to replace your case's front panel headphone jack which provides that feature by itself - http://www.frontx.com/cpx090_b1.html . And you'd want this plate to mount the jack at the rear: http://www.frontx.com/cpx073.html or you could drill or find a hole in one of your own card slot covers (or the back of the case itself) for it. If your case or satellite speaker doesn't have a mic jack, you can get one of those there too.

I use a cheapo $7 RadioShack 3-way splitter. Then again, I only have 2.0 speakers.

If the jacks on the front of your case are wired up properly, then yes, you ought to be able to leave your speakers connected to the line out at the back of the case when you plug in your headphones. It should automatically switch between outputs.

If you get a new soundcard, odds are very good that it will have headers that can be hooked up to the front panel audio of a computer case, provided that your case uses a standard wiring method to do so. If you have a prebuilt computer, you probably won't be able to do that.

And of course, as has been mentioned before, a lot of computer speakers will have headphone jacks, although you'll probably need to connect the mic to a jack on the computer.

Ok, thanks for the input.

I will check my soundcard and see if it has connections for the front audio or not.

I use only 2 speakers and no subwoofer since my space is limited.
