im looking at upgrading my aging computer... this 1ghz p3 isnt cutting it any more.. and im looking to build the best i possibly can... what is the performance difference between a 10000RPM Scsi and a 7200RPM ATA133.. worth the extra bucks?
If you are upgrading from a 1 ghz, then that mean you are not just using it for Word and internet. Then you will notice a difference between ATA and SCSI, more so if you get some of those 15000 RPMs
The best you possibly could would probably be a raid setup with a pair (or more) of 15,000 rpm scsi drives (price no object...). As far as ide vs scsi, depends on the drives. The fastest ide drives are the WD SE drives that have the 8mb buffer I believe, and then there's Serial ATA drives which I don't know much about right now, but I believe they are going to be faster than regular ide drives. HTH!!
Id agree, SCSI drives are wayyyyy too expensive, and a typical IDE drive might not cut it. Im sure one or two (RAID) of the WD w/ 8 Mb Cache will speed up the system!
IVE GOT A 15,000 SCSI CHEETAH U160 AND I SAY IT IS WORTH IT,buy a used controller card of of ebay or on this forum .......an u 160 card 29160 to be exact and then get a cheetah from frys for 220$ and your total investment would be 350$ for the heart of your system,,,no weeknes there.
