Speed up new my computer?

I just recently bought a Clevo based computer. It is a Sager based off of the Clevo W170ER. The computer has 8gb of 1600mhz samsung memory, toshiba 500gb 7200rpm hard drive, Nvidia geforce gt 650M 1gb, intel 3rd gen i7 3610QM 2.3ghz, and running windows 7?
The computer is plenty fast but i plan on using the computer for CAD and Solidworks and need a few tips on how to improve the speed but keep reliability to the max?

Since CAD programs can be very hard disk intensive, you'd probably see some improvement by switching to an SSD drive for your "working" drive and keep the Toshiba for storage for the projects that you're not actively working on.

With Solidworks, an SSD will greatly improve performance.

Does the W170ER have two HD slots? Or do you need to loose the CD drive? Your laptop might also support MSata.

You can get 120gb SSD for ~100-130 bucks

+1 for fitting a SSD. Windows/programs feel a lot more snappy working off a soid state drive.

the W170ER has 2 slots. Is there a specific SSD that handles the write and read format of CAD programs best?(sorry if worded wrong, im still learning about computers). Also what about about new the graphics card? or will it not make a great difference?

You cannot replace the graphics card.

Autodesk is usually pretty good about supporting consumer graphics but a lot of other professional design software such as SolidWorks and SolidEdge will work poorly or not at all without a professional graphics card. A Quadro 4000/5000/6000 will be more than enough.

it was a laptop. i sent it back. Im looking for something that will be more geared for use by an engineer.
