Speedstream External Modem Drivers for Linux.

I currently use an Efficient Networks 5200 Speedstream ADSL USB/Ethernet external modem (Using USB setup on Windows XP PRO), and was wondering if there were any Linux drivers out there for it.

I have tried Googling, but have come up short.

Also, does anyone know how to get Linux (Knoppix or MEPIS on boot disc) to recognize/configure this same modem for use?

Any help is appreciated.

External modem?

If you connect it thru Ethernet it shouldn't require any special drivers, it would just be normal TCP/IP-based ethernet communication, right?

If you connect thru USB, Linux is capable of doing TCP/IP over a point to point connection over USB (which is basicly a high speed serial line).

But if it goes over USB and requires a special protocol, I don't know about that.

Linux has bunches of drivers for internal DSL modems... But I don't know much about DSL.

That DSL modem has both USB & Ethernet connections,I suggest you use the ethernel port since it's better than usb anyways and network cards are very cheap.

Using the Ethernet connection also allows you to connect a router for safe surfing.

AFAIK the only USB ADSL modem driver is the alctel speedtouch/speedtouch 330. (Refered to as the stingray and frog).

I would like to use an ethernet card and a router, but for some reason my computer doesn't detect a network card. A friend tried to install one once (correct drivers/intallation etc.) but nothing we tried seemed to work.

It's a Compaq, I didn't expect much (Model: 5101RSH). I'll never own a Compaq again.

I'll give those drivers a try.
