OK, so I bought an Xbox 360 a few months ago and am slowly building up my gaming collection. I ordered Splinter Cell: Double Agent last week and it should be here shortly. Then I ran across previews around the web for Rainbox Six: Vegas.

They both seem to have the same kind of 3rd person viewpoint involving stealth and such, but what seperates the two? Is it more of a story-based mostly single-player experience (Splinter Cell) vs loosely tied together events and squad-based gaming (Rainbow Six)?

I guess my question is, if I have Splinter Cell, would I more inclined to buy Rainbow Six as well, or would it be more of the same?

Is Double Agent out already? How about the PC version? I've been waiting for that game for quite a while.

Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six play completely different. RS is more of a tactical shooter while SC is a tactical "stealth" game. Both are great. I have SC: DA and it's awesome. Graphics, sound, singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay are all top notch. I plan on playing Rainbow Six as well, and it looks excellent.

November 3rd, as far as I know. I thought it was out today until, well, today... I went to check availability and suddenly it wasn't the 24th anymore.

jtusa pretty much has it right. Rainbow Six has generally been more realistic (although I haven't played it since Rogue Spear - it seems to be less 'authentic' nowadays), a tactical shooter where you have to deal with complex situations involving hostages, bombs, etc. Splinter Cell is more of a 'spy' game; you work alone, and you use stealth and high-tech gadgetry to your advantage.

I suppose I can wait; I won't have any time for it until next month anyway. If the last SC was any indication, this game should be awesome.

I spent many hours playing Rainbow 6 on the original Xbox and it is a great series of games.

I expect Vegas to be better than the previous games. The graphics look great, and the multiplayer is a lot of fun.

Splinter Cell is a really good game too on the 360. Had that for a couple days, and I love it (even though I'm not good at it yet)

I was skeptical of SCDA after reading some reviews saying that they expected more from it, but I am on the Shanghai level and LOVING it (also loving Firefox 2.0 spell check, since I misspelled "loving").

Anyway, Splinter Cell is, typically-speaking, a solo stealth title. Your character, Sam Fisher, hides in the shadows and waits for opportune moments to step out and crack a neck from behind. He has all sorts of special gadgets to help him along his way, including electronics-disabling gun attachments and night vision goggles.

The R6 series is squad-based, essentially involving a lot of flanking. Have you played GRAW? It's basically GRAW with more tactics, less run-and-gun.

If you bought Splinter Cell, I'd say you can try R6: Vegas without worry. Maybe that would be the case if you had GRAW (maybe), but definitely not Splinter Cell.

I never was able to get into the Splinter Cell games. Just too much emphasis on sneaking and such. I didn't really enjoy the Rainbow Six games until I played Lockdown on my computer. Overall though I just can't handle all the slow paced action!

I'm having the same problem right now with splinter cell.

Rainbow Six is at least somewhat fast paced online.

Hopefully Gears of War can live up to the hype, that doesn't look slow paced at all
