I have Sprint as well and I'm more concerned about device selection than 3g vs 4g. Personally I find 3g to be more than adequate, it's basically DSL which I'm sure we've all had in our homes at some point.

Don't you get an upgrade credit with Sprint? Something like $75-100 every couple of years if I recall correctly?

There are rumors about a Galaxy Note successor being unveiled within the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping that makes its way to Sprint since we never got the original Note. If you're not a fan of the form factor of the Note, the S3 is probably the phone to get. There are always gonna be marginal upgrades every quarter, but at least with the S3 you know there'll be a large accessory/battery market.

As a sprint user I can say it is nothing like DSL. I think we can go with dial up.

Same here. I'm signed up for the Republic Wireless and have been waiting to try that out. I'm seriously thinking about ditching Sprint and going to T-Mobile prepaid for now.

Are you serious? Even slow DSL today is 1.5 Mbps, which is about five times faster than Sprint 3G. Of course that varies by area. If you're in an area where they've done a lot of Network Vision upgrades but that is also sparsely populated or just doesn't have many Sprint customers, then maybe it's different. But for a huge number of people across the country, Sprint's 3G is closer in speed to dial up than it is to DSL. I'd freaking LOVE if it their 3G was even close to 1 Mbps, but it isn't. The fact that they also charge an extra $10 per smartphone per month for "premium data" when their data is anything but premium is just insulting.

3G on Sprint is adequate?
Holy shit, you're the first person I've ever known to say that.

I could never stream mp3s with dial up like I can with sprint 3g. I can even stream netflix at decent quality over sprint 3g at times. At least in my area 3g is fine by me plus I don't have to worry about going over on data because it is unlimited.

I ran a few speedtests on an Epic 4g (Galaxy S) with 4g disabled (I don't think we have it here anyways) and from the Atlanta server my low was .78 Mbps with a high of 1.19 Mbps. On the Chicago server it dipped to .58 Mbps once, also went as high as 1.11 Mbps. I'm located in northern Virginia. Most of the tests I ran were in the 1 Mbps range.

I've never seen those speeds on Sprint's 3G ever in the LA area. It's almost always painfully slow but it does recently seem to be getting better because they're upgrading their towers everywhere so some places where I'd barely get a signal I'm actually getting decent signal now.

I've seen my Verizon 4G hit 60 Mbps down here in LA.

On 3G, its typically between 1-2Mbps. I had Sprint for about 10 years. As far as network goes, even though Sprint is pretty good here in LA it still pales in comparison to Verizon.

Ugh damn Verizon LTE is damn sexy. If it wasn't so expensive I'd switch in a second.

Just ran speed test on Sprint 4G, 3.7 down, 1.2 up.

:/ i guess thats good if youre away from a tower and only have a couple bars of reception.. but if i go to a truck stop where a tower is right outside i get 2.5 down and 1.0 up on 3g!

I tested sprint for a week when Best Buy was running a "Free Nexus S" promotion. I got around 200ish kbps up and down at home and work. My T-Mobile GS1 got around 3mbps in the same location on HSPA+, and AT&T is much the same now with a GS2.

Went into the Sprint store yesterday. I get zip, zero, nada from Sprint.
I asked the sales person why a person could walk in off the street and get the same exact deal I can when I have been with them for two years. He said but you can get the S3 for $199 (with 2 year commitment), ya well, so can anyone else.. But you have unlimited data, ya, anyone else can get it too.
He then told me LTE was coming to my area next year. Funny, Sprint's website has a list out to the end of 2014 and my area is not listed.

Going to just keep my Evos for now and if I do upgrade, it will likely be with Verizon.

i think sprint did a good job of hanging on as long as they have. they kept their prices the lowest as they should because they have the weakest network. i dont want to see them go, but it really does seem like the industry is running away from them. and that new unlimited 4g tmo plan for $30 is a sprint sero killer, thats for sure....

which is the last thing sprint wants because they have been trying to get sero users to stay with sprint but pay more for YEARS. now tmo comes in and undercuts them? i dont see this going well for sprint.

Verizon does the same thing.

Current customers are treated like scum.
New customers are treated like gold.
