I'll put in another vote for the ST Louis zoo. Been there 4 or 5 times and I loved it and it has a great children's section. One odd thing to do is when you go to the Arch make sure you and your family take turns standing with your backs against the inside (the "pointy" side) of the Arch, look over at the other side, and then look up at the top. I won't spoil what will happen but keep track of who can look the longest. I hope you can still do it because it's been a long time since I been there and I don't know if you're still allowed to walk under the Arch anymore.

We'll for sure go see the Arch. I doubt we will go up in it though. My kids HATE such things. I've been up it before, very cool. I'd just like them to see it and we can run around in the park below.

Right now I'm thinking if we leave SUPER early on Friday morning, we can get to the Cards/Crew game Friday night. Zoo on Saturday, then Sunday and Monday as days to do "other things" (like the Science Museum etc)

lemme know when you're in town... we'll hang.

My kids will love that

Suggestions on hotel locations? where to stay... or where NOT to stay?
I'm not looking for 4 star here. Just somewhere nice and clean and safe. Maybe a pool for night. Trying to stay on a budget here...

Decent enough? Most hotels are totally full. Two major conventions in town or something that weekend.

I second the transportation museum. It's pretty cool and has a lot of interesting displays.
Cahokia Mounds is a short distance across the river in Illinois and is pretty interesting ancient Native American site.

Also, I know you have kids but the Brewery Tour is still pretty entertaining.

With a little effort you could find something further away from everything. Youre safe down there...mostly. Are you coming in THIS weekend? You do realize the NCAA Tournament is here the 23rd and 24th, no? I live downtown so i have to pay attention to these things...

HomerBoy, it would probably be pretty easy to get a hotel on the east side.

Fairview Heights is literally about 10 minutes from downtown. You cross the river, take highway 64 for about 10 minutes, and Fairview is on your right. There's quite a few hotels in the part of Fairview close to the highway. And since it dumps you right on to highway 64, it's going to be easy for you to go to the city and come back to your hotel without wasting much time.

The Metro also goes there. Getting to City Museum or Forest Park would be a breeze with no parking issues.

Good luck getting in and getting food after waiting for hours. BBQ in STL is a lunch time adventure...will you or wont you eat?

Truth. That's why I mentioned Bogart's Still a wait, but nothing like Pappy's.

As little as I like to go to the east side of the river, I have to agree that it's probably not a bad plan for a hotel. You're a helluva lot closer than the other hotel you linked as well.
