Hey, juser.
would you recommend getting the roses today or tomorrow based on the quantity they had at costco?
Anyone know if they will restock for tomorrow?
I don't want to go there tomorrow morning to find no roses left.

This time of year makes me VERY thankful that my fiance hates V-Day as much as I do - what a blatantly commercial holiday!

Happy Valentines.....

SECURITY ADVISORY

FTD.COM Leaks Credit Card Numbers to the Internet
Gerald Quakenbush, CISSP, NSA-IAM
February 12, 2003

Overview
Serious security flaws exist in the way the popular http://www.ftd.com web site is
configured and in its software that allows any hacker with kindergarten
level skills to retrieve information, unauthorized, from the site. It is
trivial to retrieve customer data, including credit card numbers, expiration
dates, account names, shipping addresses and anything else FTD knows about
the consumer.

Details
Two errors combine to make this a very serious, very urgent issue. First,
FTD has very deeply flawed session tracking logic. Secondly, server
configuration flaws allow users to connect without using SSL. These issues
are independent of each other; however, the ability to connect without SSL
simplifies the attack.

The session logic is deeply flawed. The session logic is about as simple as
session logic can get - they use an integer to track unique visitors and the
integer is simply incremented from one user to another. In order to retrieve
someone else's confidential information (yes, their credit card number among
other things) one only needs to transmit a simple request and vary a cookie
value in order to read client data.

Status
FTD has been contacted and advised of the issue. Due to the simplicity of
exploiting the attack, it was deemed necessary to alert friends, family,
country and planet to the risk.

I got the dozen roses from proflowers.com. They are of average quality with virtually no scent. Shoulda went local. Now I have to supplement the roses with other things...argghh.

Is it any more bogus or commercial than Christmas?

If this is you and your SO's view of the holiday and you want to score some extra points, get her/him flowers and use the line "Even if it is a blatantly commercial holiday, I'll take any excuse to do something nice for you!"

In a society that is so romanticocentric, a holiday that reminds people they are in love while reminding others they are alone, to me, serves no greater purpose. Moreover, the holiday itself was never a purely non-commercial entity. All of the others evolved into commercial entities. As nice as the rememberance of St. Valentine is, it was never the primary purpose of the day. It was just a convienent story to attach. Need I remind you of the Simpsons episode satirizing this very thing with Love Day?

You shouldn't need a holiday to remind you to act in love and do nice things for your significant other. If you do, you're living a sad existance.

My actions show I'm in love, Not gifts. When you have a house payment and a child, flowers/candy/jewelry are no longer a weekly treat. This is a reason to treat her, with no remorse as to why I didn't put extra on the house payment or buy new lawn chairs, etc...

Sounds like your the one with the SAD existance, relating to a simpsons episode. Get a dog...

Very few commercial roses have any significant scent without sticking the petals up your nose. The varieties they grow to sell have been hybridized to have the long stems and huge blooms and somehow the fragrance was bred out, possibly in an effort to get the cut stems to last longer. You need to go to hobbyist rosebushes for really fragrant roses.

Try spraying them with a little rose-scented room deodorizer.

FYI:

Dozen roses @ Costco 14.99 not 2 dozen for 12.99 as mentioned before. I saw 200 to 300 dozen of them last night at 6:00pm. They said they had been bringing them out all day and would do the same today. They look great and even have a fragrance from a distance.
Oh and they have baby's breath and other little flowers in there just like at the florist.

I went to the Costco off of Senter Rd. in San Jose last night. They had tons of flowers also. I bought mine for $7.99 i think. Hopefully i get some appreciation for them.

Great deal! Costco is the best!

I went with proflowers (during the deal with the chocolates and vase for $50). The package arrived today. The roses were small, and had no scent. The vase was standard. The chocolates came in a (very small) nice box, but when she opened it, there were only a few individually wrapped Ghiradelli chocolate squares in it (pretty poor, looks like Halloween candy). Next year, I'm definately going local (this is my first V-Day I'm not alone, and hopefully it won't be my last).

update --- the roses, after day, picked up in the scent dept - give them a day.

>>>Yes it is much more bogus that Christmas.

Oh please, at least its honest - give flowers or you are a louse.

Christmas is supposed to the the celebration of the birth of some guy, forget his name by now, but it wasn't Santa.

BTW, I hear that many Americans seem to think that Santa Claus is actually plump, not fat accd to a CNN poll. Figures, look at the size of us.
