Staples PriceMatch and Coupon Policy change!!!

Just got off the phone with a Staples customer service rep...They will no longer accept coupons with a pricematch whick takes the price of the item below cost.

example....
Linksys cable modom....$129.98 PM to Outpost.com for $99.00
add anything to get the price over $100.00
$25.00 off $100.00
plus free shipping

1. They added Outposts shipping charge ($3.95) to the price of the item I wanted. total....$102.95
2. They now would not honor the coupon $25.00 off $100.00 with this PM
heres the kicker.....You still get free shipping from Staples.....by them adding the shipping cost from OUTPOST.

Check out their new policy as of 01-01-02

I placed this order on 01-05-02 and got called with the news today 01-07-02, after the order had been placed.
I argued for 15 minutes with the manager and finally cancelled my order. Funny how their own employee did not know their new policy. They lost my business over $2.60...F@$% them

Yea, this is a not so new policy that started late last year. Now, they are inforcing it more often, and vigerously (to the point of calling you back after the order). I got one last PM + coupon though several days ago before I found out about it. The sup made my new sales rep call me back to tell me they couldn't do it after I spent 2 hours "training" the poor girl on pricematching. I got the sup's sup to push the order through, but I don't expect any more going through.

We can't blaim them for the change in policy. They were loosing tons of money on doing it. Now they have a new 110% PM. I wonder how well that will work. Certainly the deals aren't going to be a strong, but some will still be worth using.


p.s. Just to be cranky....This really isn't the no longer hot PM policy forum. Brag and moan woulda been a better place.

Amex, imho, is now one of the best ways to price match. Just gotta figure out where to buy, what coupons to apply, and who to match to, but it's one of the best deals available

Do you think they care that they lost your future business which causes them to lose money on the item? They enforced their policy, and if they are lucky you won't try it the next time when the price difference to them is more.

Dugh...what do think their intentions were? That's all you can do. They don't want bargain hunters buying from staples at below cost. Staples wants businesses purchasing from them. Businesses generally don't look to PM and coupon something to death. Most Secretaries/office purchasers generally take the company card over to staples and charge what's needed. If she/he happens to use a $10 off $100 coupon, she/he thinks she's really done something. THAT'S who staples is after.

All you have to do is call and place your order--have them PM it then and then tell them you have to go and to put the order on hold. Call back in a little while, make sure you talk to someone different, and tell them you'd like to complete your order. Then tell them that you'd like to use a coupon. 99% of the time they wont realize that you had already PM'ed. Works everytime!

Plus, like I always say, "If they tell you NO, just call back until they say YES!"

Whenever, I am either on the phone with a CSR or in the store with a manager knowing I have lost the issue over the sale, the following is my mantra.

It not like the old days when one got p***ed off and told 20 people about the problem. I'm am going up on the web to a couple sites, where people frequently write about your company. Now thousands, maybe millions, will know how you do business.

Since ancient time, people often have talked over the price for a good or a service. It's not our fault, we so called abusers of Staples, that Staples decided to put out coupons, free shipping, and price match. If Staples is hurting on the bottom line, then don't p*** on me. There too many dot coms in the graveyard of e-commerce and I don't miss none of those losers.

This isn't new; the price match policy change WRT coupons happened in November. And they've always included the competitor's shipping charges in the price match.

Further, this isn't a HOT DEAL, either. Take it over to the Brag and Moan thread (hint: you're not bragging).
