The whole Sulu being gay being a homage to Takei is disrespectful instead. If he is against the idea it's not honoring him in any way.

I don't mind the alternate reality but I do agree on the destruction of Vulcan, Romulan & vast leaps in technology being issues. I can honestly admit to not liking TOS, loving TNG, being a bit meh with DS9 and finding Voyager okay. Enterprise was worth watching for Scott Bakula but little else.

Hollywood has to push their agenda though.

That being said, that's a non-issue for me, I'm not going to see this movie because it just looks bad and Trek is dead. This is coming from a guy who sat through Star Trek V in the theater.

Yeah, analog tape that can be scanned at movie quality as easily as at SDTV quality. They also redid all of the CG so that they wouldn't look out of place with the improved live-action visuals.

It wasn't shot on tape. It was shot on 35mm film and edited on video to produce the TV masters. For the remaster, they scanned in and then re-edited all of the episodes from the 35mm negatives.

Really? I love the way Abrams is putting new life and a new story into Star Trek. Rehashing a story that has been done to death would be boring, frankly. Going into the future is tough for a movie/TV series. Have you watched TNG recently? It's looking pretty dated.
It looks like an OK generic sci-fi movie but it definitely doesn't feel like star trek to me.

Dax is the symbiont. Jadzia is the trill host.

Love gets a little complicated.

Wasn't Dax bi? She was just the host body for some ancient creature wasn't she?

Correct...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dax_(Star_Trek)

Dax is a character in the fictional Star Trek universe. It is a Trill symbiont — a life form that lives inside humanoid hosts. The first appearance of a Trill was in the episode "The Host" from the fourth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation; in that early version, the personality of the being was entirely that of Odan, the symbiont within the host, whereas the personalities of the Trills in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine are a blending of the symbiont Dax and its sequential Trill hosts

http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Trill_symbiont

A symbiont was a sentient vermiform lifeform from the planet Trill. It was transferred from one humanoid Trill host to another, upon the death of the prior host. The symbiont took with it all of the memories of the previous Trill hosts so, upon joining, the new Trill host gained those memories.

TNG (especially the early season), does look really dated. DS9 and VOY, however, are still pretty great to look at even now. And DS9 story line is still the best. Hopes are almost completely gone now that someone will ever continue this timeline, but never say never.

This reboot doesn't really feel like Trek to me. It has the character names, and that's about it (very similar to what I feel about the Bourne movies). The disconnect with the Trek that I became a fan of a long time ago is too large, and it's clearly intentional. I guess that's the strategy, to make it distinctly different than the other timeline.

They're still pretty good action movies, so I'll watch and follow them.

I'm projecting a bit but George's point was sulu wasn't written to be gay, references to his child are answered as she was a beautiful woman from ...(I forgot where).
He is great with the idea of gays in Star Trek he just feels Sulu should stay ambiguous.
He was straight in the original series.

Then again, that was in a parallel universe, and he was a total misogynist. He did have a daughter in one of the movies, but in the main show and movies, they didn't say how that daughter came about, so I guess you could call that more ambiguous.

That's like nitpicking about clips vs. mags, except even more obscure. Close enough

I tried watching TMP once. Peckers poking out the uniforms? Sure. Shave a woman's head and pass her off as an alien? Eh, whatev. I endured up to the point when they were talking in slow motion. FIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEE PHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOEOOOOOOOOOOOOS

There comes a point where I feel embarrassed for watching a movie.

I remember seeing that in theaters when I was a kid. We were sitting on the floor in the aisles, the place was packed.

I have tickets to see Star Trek Beyond with my son this Sunday at Cinepolis. Looking forward to it.

I am guessing Scotty figured out how to liquify a dilithium crystal and direct inject it into the engine.

It'll drop a bit more between now and the release date. But hopefully this means it trends close to Star Trek 12, which all things considered would be a good outcome for a movie that attempts to right what JJ has wronged.
The ratings have actually got up a bit to 90%, albeit only with 31 reviews.

TNG was remastered in 4:3. Here's why:

I watched the original series when the were aired when young myself. Watched a lot of TNG's, I was never a Deep Space Nine fan.

Have even been watching a lot of the remastered originals on Amazon lately. Trek was ahead of its time so much.

Have watched all the movies, I actually liked the first reboot a lot, Into Darkness not as well, but it was pretty good I thought.

I might go to the theater for this one, which I do not do a lot. But I did that for the last Godzilla when it came out, and that sucked balls so still on the fence

Probably will wait on reviews.
