Maybe, just maybe, Blizzard doesn't give a fuck about all the "no smoking in movies or games zomg" garbage that goes on. Besides, Starcraft isn't what I'd call a children's game. I am glad the characters smoke and drink, because lets face it, real people smoke and drink.

LOL especially in Alabama.

But lets face it real people that look like Jim dont spend all day drinking and smoking.

We should probably just go ahead and rename the "PC Gaming" forum to "Starcraft Discussion".

You do realize Starcraft is even bigger than Counterstrike or any of the Call of Duty games, right? Not surprising its what everyone talks about after its released.

Starcraft IS pc gaming.

There are thirteen Starcraft threads on the first page of PC gaming. That's stupidly excessive. Not every PC gamer gives a flying fucking about SC and there's no reason to have so many threads where there should be just one.

Or maybe you could just ignore them if you don't like them... Let me guess, gays piss you off too?

There are thousands of them just on the islands of New Zealand. That's stupidly excessive. Not every person gives a flying fucking about them and there's no reason to have so many gays where there should just be one.

Amirite?

Agreed, they need to be locked or merged with the Official SC2 thread. This particular thread, should more rightly fit in OT. Its a discussion about drug use in media, media that's often played/experienced but underage individuals.

I can't believe you just tried to equate getting annoyed with forum quasi-spam to being homophobic. Sounds like some of that Freudian subconscious nonsense right there.

Though I'm not a smoker or drinker, I can appreciate the fact that characters in video games can do it. Why? Like has already been said, vice has been part of human society as long as we've been here. If you want to take alcohol and smoking out of games you might as well do it to movies. Then you should put ads for real life products in the games and movies. That makes about as much sense.

I also find the people in my area with these habits a little humorous. Whenever I go to a gas station and get in line behind someone buying a few cartons, a couple of flagons of coffee brandy and a baker's-dozen lottery tickets, I almost always hear them complain about the cost of said items. That makes me smile. The price could double and they'd still find a way to buy these things.

I smoke way too much while playing, I know that. And cigarettes are $12.70 here in NYC.

I'm actually glad Blizzard didn't get all PC. People smoke in real life, especially military.

i took the time and effort to log in and say HOLY CRAP that's a lot of money for a pack of smokes.

here in iowa i paid like... 6 something for a pack of american spirits a few weeks ago.

can't believe people are trying to dodge the tax. They need to pay their fair share into the system. Those people are going to be drawing on state benefits when they have cancer in old age. How immoral of you, it's the state's money not yours if you're a smoker.

Haha! :awe:

OP, they're just showing how "tough" and "gritty" he is. They went non-PC, which is actually refreshing these days.

Kiss my ass. The damned system is making a killing from vice, even if some people find loopholes. If they really gave a shit they'd just ban the stuff, but then Obama would probably just have a nicotine fit and bomb the hell out of China. Seriously though, our society runs off of the addictions of others, you don't think there's something wrong with that?

$12.70 is insane. I pay $4.50 /pack for Camels and I thought that was crazy.

It is more Like Blizzard is advertising for Phillips Morris, they sure went through a lot of trouble to make sure that pack of Marlboro on Raynod's left arm stands out in every cutscene.

"show how tough and gritty he is?"

The never show Raynod smoke in the games, just that pack of Marlboro stuck to his left arm.

ESRB Teen rating & cigarette product placing?

I see nothing good coming from this. But I predict no attacks from the politicians until they are no long preoccupied with the upcoming elections. Then expect lawsuits and product withdrawal/recalls similar to the Hot Coffee controversy.

Yep, $12.70. In Korean delis they're more like $14. Yep, it's amazing.

I used to order online from the Indian reservations upstate, but one of the first things Blomoberg did was sue the hell out of them for helping us avoid the silly state/city taxes on smokes.

IMO, you can't object to smoking in Starcraft unless you also object to the brutal violence. As others have said, it's actually refreshing and it fits in with the rustic, backwater + high technology universe they've built.

Off Topic response, for sure: But I'd feel a lot better about people paying taxes of this sort (...smokers paying more as a means to compensate for higher illness rates, in this case...) if the bast@rds in Government actually put the money towards the intended purpose. Because the simple reality is they don't. Not even close.

Perhaps it would be better to discuss the (im)morality of government agencies enriching themselves by taxing various behaviors in the name of "Helping" people. But then again, perhaps we're merely so used to getting f*cked by the upper 1 percent that we actually buy into the sh*t they shovel.

'Nuff Said

*************

As far as the OP: It's not actually a Pack of Cigarettes. It's a homing beacon placed there by the Government Of The Future as the means to both track the individual, and to identify behaviors that individual engages in which may or may not be taxable.

Purely for accounting purposes, you understand.

If you'd played the game (which you couldn't have) you'd know he does smoke in cut scenes. Tycus (sp?) does as well.

Maybe if it was 1997 and this was SC1, but no, its not and it isn't.

I actually have more of a problem with believing that people still smoke in the vast future when considering the reduction in smoking in the past decade more so than thinking its some sort of advertising conspiracy. Of course maybe they've cured cancer by then so you can do whatever the fuck you want to your body and not have to worry

lol please...
