I found the StarTAC® clipOn Organizer for $64.95 at this site.

Could you please post here any deals that are better than $64.95 for this item if you find them?

Wow! This looks like a very hot deal. AFAIK, this used to be around $149 or so. The sidebar even talks about free shipping

Edit: Shipping is 4.95. Total comes to $69.90

Thanks Len

Anyone who's dealt with either of these two companies?

No, you're not the only one getting excited about this. I am too. But I'm doing my research prior to placing the order. Anyone with feedback on this product? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Ive had the Motorola Star Tac Dual band with Sprint PCS for a year -
service is crappy, dropped calls, weak signals, etc regardless if
I am local or in another sprint city nationwide.

I already have a Handspring Visor for PDA, but got the StarTac clipon
organizer over Xmas at CompUSA for about $60. Even on the Motorola
website you can find it pretty cheap, with a rebate etc, because they
are getting rid of the startacs for the next gen models coming out.

The first problem with ClipOn Organizer is that the software for it =
TrueSync = looks for, and insists on taking over any Palm-type devices
such as my Visor. When I synched to the Visor and Outlook, the ah heck
ended up wiping out all my Contacts in the Outlook and the Visor, showing
only 3 Contacts left (they were Category - UNFILED). Let me tell you,
I FREAKED:Q , losing all my contacts. Had to scramble to find Outlook backups.
Had to uninstall TrueSync before the Outlook and Visor could talk to each
other again.
Finally got everything working again... so bottom line is Clip On worth it?
For $60 yes, if you havent programmed in all the freq dialled numbers into
the phone already and dont have a PDA.

The clip-on organizer is a Franklin REX (which got bought out by Xircom) !!

It's claim to fame (the REX) was that it was the size of a PC Card and would slip into the PC Card slot of a laptop.

The clip-on was originally quite expensive and so it's nice to see it come down, but it adds a significant amount of bulk to the phone and while it's also cool that it integrates to an extent with the phone it is only of limitied use (IMHO).

I'll wait for them to drop some more before I decide to mess with them... or until CompGeeks sells them for $10.

I'd like to confirm the fact that this product is practically identical to Franklin REX PRO aka Xircom REX5000 aka Xircom REX5001 right down to the embeded software except for the connection for the phone and additions to facilitate the dialing phone numbers directly from the device. As a matter of fact I have owned my REX for about 2 years now and you can't beat the size. The input into it is slow and painful and better left to synching with your Outlook though. I think that's the reason why REX came with a little leather case that has a pad of business card sized paper. The newer versions of TrueSync from Starfish can be used to also synchronize with various websites such as Yahoo and Excite address books as well as numerous other hardware devices all at the same time as can be seen here.

To address the compatibility of this device I'd like to point out the fact that according to the description it is "also compatible with Timeport? and Talkabout® series phones."

Thanks TW. That's the best price I've seen yet, even with $4.99 ground shipping. Just ordered one.

What a mess. When I ordered mine last week, they were showing in stock. So I ordered it, was told my card wouldn't be charged till it shipped, and then received contradictory stories on when shipping information would be made available. It's been exactly a week today, and still it has not shipped. Although they have charged my card. Their customer service person is telling me that they are busy filling backorders. They've been filling backorders for a week.

So, here I am, a week later. My card has been charged. The item has not been shipped. They won't tell me when it will ship. And I'm wondering if they honestly have enough to fill all of their orders. Or are they going to put mine on backorder and refuse to admit it to me? It's hideous.

It's a great price. But I wouldn't order anything from them. They've certainly got all of the money out of me they are ever going to get.

yeah cerebus - I got the same story and runaround when I inquired about my order that I placed on January 22nd.

Check out the letter I got from them:

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hello,

The supplier is having some problems, we are waiting for them to ship these
orders for this product. I do not have an E.T.A when you will receive it.
If you do not want to wait, I do understand, I will cancel this order.
Please let me know.

Thanks,
Denise
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

hope I actually get this thing -I'm giving it another week then I'm cancelling my order and getting my damn refund!

You got a lot more info out of them than I did. She didn't want to give me any info. All she offered to do was credit my card back and recharge me when the order shipped.

They don't have a clue about customer service. And it looks like all of their customer service is handled by one person. I'm kind of wondering if shopwireless.com is being run out of someone's home and all of their products are being drop shipped.

I'm gonna wait a week or so. The price is real good and I don't mind the wait. I just wish they were honest and up front with everything.

Cerebus/Ihplam,

If you haven't received the product, then most credit cards will allow you to dispute the charge (especially since you were told you wouldn't be charged before they shipped it). If you are worried about not receiving it, then you may want to think about disputing it.

I'm not worried about the charge. I know that she would credit my card without any problems if I asked to cancel my order. Which is kind of the problem. She's too eager to. She would rather cancel my order than tell me what's going on. And I don't want that. I just want information. It's been 2 weeks and it still has not shipped. And she has made no contact with me to tell me that it's been backordered (contrary to the in stock status when I ordered it).

It's amazing how fast a hot deal can go cold. Don't order from Shopwireless.com. No matter how hot the deal.

For those of you who ordered from ShopWireless:
I talked to Angel the CSR on Friday, and she said their warehouse received the organizers on Friday, and they will be shipping them out today (Monday), and we will be able to access our tracking numbers on Tuesday on their website.
I hope this is the end of it. I won't order from them again.

WooHoo! I finally got the clipon organizer from ShopWireless. It came FedEx today. I actually got the tracking number in my email this morning. A little late for any use.
Anyway, it ended taking them 2 days short of a month to deliver to me an item they classified as "In Stock". I don't think I will order from them again, but I am glad I got this item.

Ive had it for several months. It worked great when i had my motorola talkabout. Havent used it much cause someone fvcked up my phone and my new one doesnt use it.

I never had any problems with the software. no offense Vajurewi, but i think that was due to a user error. Ive installed the software twice, no problems. You do have to be careful in your selected options.

I received mine from Shopwireless via Fedex today as well...

I agree they should not have charged our credit cards and notified us of the shipping delay, but it wasnt difficult for us to contact Angel ourselves and find that out...she knew about the problem and offered immediate solutions (credit the card back, etc)

I spoke to her last week and she was very friendly, and no doubt had already heard tons of complaints regarding the order...the problem truly seemed to be their supplier...I would still trust them as the deal turned out to be legit and the company was reputable...

I'm not saying they weren't friendly. They were. But they weren't very helpful. They never could tell me what was going on. They told me 3 separate times that my item had arrived in their LA warehouse and that they would be shipping. I was told once that they would be sending out a broadcast email telling everyone what was going on. That never happened either.

I got mine Monday. 4 weeks to the day from when I ordered it. And not once was I ever told the truth of what was going on. And their system did say "In Stock" when I ordered it.

They need better online inventory control and better connection to their drop shippers for better shipping confirmation management.

I'm happy with it. Was worth the price.

An earlier post mentioned that this clip on had caused him to lose some Outlook data. That's happened to me and set me back in a major way.

Of course I didn't have a backup, so screw me. A problem was that there was no easy way to back up just the Outlook files.

Well I guess MS finally figured out that some of us would like a quick, convenient way to do backups so they've made an add-on available. It's for Outlook 2000 and you can find it here.
