4 days done so far.

Not in that great Cardio shape right now, so its rough for sure but getting through it. I am 5'8" and started around 205. I have not been under 185 in awhile, i have pretty strong legs and broad shoulders so i think it will be hard for me to get under 180 or so. At least most of the weight i gained is in my stomach and not all over.

Eatting around 1400-1500 calories a day, trying to drink more water and taking a multi vitamin.

I have done p90x boot camp up to about 5 weeks and had great results but lost the first disk. So picked this up, its a lot harder starting out. I will post how things are going.

Anyone else done this? Hoping to lost about 20lbs in the 2 month program with eatting and doing this.

Then will probably take a week off and do a second round, maybe with some gym mixed in.

congrats on starting your new regimen!

have you read the fat loss sticky? it's at the top of this sub-forum and has great information on how many calories you should be eating. the reason i ask is that 1400-1500 calories sounds kind of low.

keep up the good work!

I will have to read it.

I did just a diet wieght loss before and stayed around 1300-1400 for a month or so and it went well.

Looking to strip some weight off, i will adjust it if i need to eat more or don't have the energy to do the workouts.

I feel pretty good after day 4 though, the "fitness test" was the worst day by far so far.

It's nice and refreshing to see a thread like this where the OP has already started. Too many of the threads in this forum seem to be "I will start X workout on Y day", and then nothing comes of it.

Keep up the good work, and if you're hungry, don't be afraid to eat more! At 5'8", 205 lbs. you could probably get another 200-300 calories in without sacrificing results; however, I envy you if you can get through the day on 1500 calories without feeling hungry.

All the best!!

i took the liberty of trying to determine your BMR from the link in the fat loss sticky but it appears to be busted. using a quick google search i found other calculators online and they all put your BMR in the 1950-2000 calorie range depending on age. so in theory you should be eating above this amount in order to lose weight (i know it sounds counter-intuitive).

Hmm ok i could not access the link from work. When i worked it out last fall i think my calories to maintain current weight was around 2500 or so, i used that to figure out what to lose how i came to 1400. That was without working out though.

I will try to read up some more tonight and plan the diet more around it, just sounds weird eat more to lose more weight.

I just wanted to add, in addition to what Blackdogdeek has mentioned, to make sure you're getting your fair share of protein. Cardio tends to burn both lean mass and fat, and you want to make sure you preserve as much lean mass as possible to burn as many calories as possible while resting.

Also, be prepared for people to start telling you to eat more! Food isn't the enemy if you're exercising. Try for whole foods most of the time, and make sure you at least recognize most of the ingredients on the packages of the food you're eating the rest of time.

/edit I just regurgitated SC's information. Read the fat loss sticky. It's wonderful. It's where I started my weight loss journey that has allowed me to lose 83 pounds.

/edit2 Yes it does sound weird when people say eat more to lose weight. Just as a reference, I've maintained my weight of 162 this week eating about 3200 calories daily. I cut from 245 to 162 eating between 1800-2400 calories per day. I'm 5'10", 28 years old.

I agree. The theory goes that you need to eat at least your BMR in order to maintain the base required metabolic functions (like heart pumping, brain doing stuff, breathing, etc) otherwise your body starts conserving calories (you gain weight or stop losing weight). This is the lower bound. The upper bound is the caloric maintenance number which is the amount of calories required to maintain your current weight at your current level of activity. If you eat more than this amount your body stores the excess calories and you gain weight. You need to eat between the lower bound and the upper bound.

Since your diet is below your BMR (lower bound), you actually need to eat more to get into the correct range.

I'd worry less about calorie cutting so extremely (2000 would be minimum) and focus more on eating better quality foods. Starting a fad diet and fad exercise regiment would typically indicate that after you're done you'll go back to a sedentary lifestyle and your previous diet, completely destroying your progress. Fix the diet to a reasonable, healthy(ish) one and the results might actually stick.

I've been impressed by the P90X diet so far. The only time I ever feel hungary is a couple hours after dinner time. I usually end up cheating and eating a carrot. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I'm trying to average about 2100 calories, but the key, I think, is that I'm eating much better foods. No fast food, no fried meats, etc. For instance, today I had 3 soy sausage patties and 3 strips of turkey bacon for breakfast...and it tasted damn good.

I just started Insanity on the 31st. So.. the fit test and two work outs. I've done P90X and TurboFire so far its a lot tougher than the other two! I'm down 50lbs (from 265) since October of 2011. I've been doing Shakeology and eating a lot healthier and the results are really starting to show! My wife is a Beachbody coach so shes been a great motivator!

I do a p90x and insanity hybrid and all i can tell you is EAT! You are burning a whole lot of calories and your body needs to be replenished, especially punishing it day after day doing this. Plus you work 2 jobs, you need to eat.

Peace

Just remember your results are based 70% on nutrition and 30% on exercise. Just remember once you decide on a calorie deficit from your baseline, that's exactly what is is, your baseline. Your get quick results early on by increasing you calorie deficit through exercise but it's not some most people can handle long term. Plus it greatly increases your chance of losing to much muscle mass.

For example...
If your baseline is 2000 calories and you aim for 1600 cals per day.
Those numbers are when you're doing nothing. If you work out and burn 300-400 calories
You should be eating 1900-2000 calories, which still gives you your target calorie deficit of 400 calories

First week done and did mondays today.

So far its going well, lost 7 lbs in the first week.

I am doing shakeolgy in the morning also, been thinking about getting a recovery powder or something. I have ate well all week and really don't find myself hungry like i used to be. Also quit drinking diet pop which i used to drink 3 to 4 a day.

I bought it for my GF also, she is going to start today, I don't think she realizes what she is in for yet. She is in decent shape about 5'7" 135 right now, mostly needs to tone and lose a bit. She thinks losing weight is just going out jogging a few times a week though. It may sound evil but i look forward to her doing the fitness test today .

I upped it a some but still around 1600 or so a day.

Other thing is not sure if i should do this barefoot or with shoes on. I do it on carpet with decent padding. I did one day with shoes and it feels like i get bound up some. I have done the rest barefoot and so far no issues.

I am looking to get a heartrate/calorie per hour watch, anyone have any they would recommend?

Thanks

I usually end up cheating and eating a carrot.

A carrot is never cheating. If you are trying to be so strict that you think of a carrot as bad, it will never stick in the long run (talking years here) no matter how much self control you have.

Oh, I know. I was being partially facetious with my statement...I know a carrot isn't cheating...I was merely saying that it wasn't part of my meal plan.

2 weeks done, another fitness test tonight gah!

I am down from 210 to 199 though, so not a bad first 2 weeks, hoping by the end of the first month to be close to 190.

Nice Job, Insanity is the real deal lol, if you are up for it after you are done with Insanity you can try asylum its even crazier if you can believe it! The Vertical Plyo workout in there is INSANE, short but VERY intense.

I hate to admit this but I'm on my third week of insanity and I'm getting really bored with it, especially the warmup routine. It's to the point where I feel like giving up. I haven't seen the results you have, but I am definitely toning up and I can recover faster, cardio wise. I'm just finding it increasingly difficult to hit the play button in the morning. As for you, keep up the good work, youll be at your goal in no time.
