Depends on what you like to do I guess. Guild Wars is nice for quick levels, not too much grinding, but the social aspect is lacking IMO. WoW is really big, I like the game, but they have alot of server issues. Everquest II, probably not a good idea unless you were into EQ1. Lineage II is fun, but UBER grinding at the higher levels. PvP in Lineage II is fun.

going out into the game world for long periods of time to level up. Like 4+ hrs. Power leveling basically.

what are you looking for in the game?

i play Guild Wars, well.. haven't played in a long time
the idea for GW is to get your character to max level and 'ascend' out of the game world into the.. can't remember what its called... but basically, at that point, your just in guilds and your fighting to be the dominant guild in the charts.. and helping your country area (north america, europe, and korea) for that same dominance...

im waiting for Huxley to come out later this year... its an MMOFPS, so its all real time and everything.. sounds crazy fun (yes i played planetside and yet, i was extremely let down).. an ever-changing world and no virtual dice rolls all real-time action.. hopefully it works out as great as its sounding

After about level 70, Lineage II is like 50hrs a level. Everquest II isn't so bad, not entirely sure about WoW, since I never got past like level 20 in that. WoW is really quest based for your exp, so its a bit more fun.

I'm playing EQ2 without ever having played EQ1. From what I hear, it's more difficult than WOW but infinitely less painful than EQ1.

Guildwars isn't an MMOG. You're going to be disappointed if you're expecting one. Think of Diablo.

the drawback to the no-fee model, is to keep server costs down, its mostly a single player game... unless you are in a city, you dont run into any characters that arent NPC unless they are in your party.. if you form a party, the other members will share the instanced area with you, other than that, its all yours. both good and bad.. no people spawn camping... but no people to share the whole thing with, other than party members
i personally like that model, but some don't.. some people compare the cities to be like giant chatrooms.. which is true.. everyone is essentially either LFG'ing (looking for group) or WTB/WTS'ing (want to buy/want to sell)... nothing else happens in cities other than that.. which i guess there wouldnt really be anything happening in an MMO city anyway... most people only go into them to buy things to go quest with.. or to get quests to begin with

I recently quit my subscription to WoW... played it over Christmas break and enjoyed it quite a bit. I quit because I decided that I would either neglect my classes and play it a ton to get my money's worth, or focus on classes, and not get my money's worth. I decided it was best to just cancel for the time being.

It was the first MMORPG I have ever played. It was very fun though. To me there were two main ways of questing. Either getting simple quests that took you around the world and you battled the different monsters and groups to win, or questing in dungeons with groups. I thought the dungeons were LOADS of fun. Everything else was just leading up to a dungeon run for me. Mostly becasue they were challenging, you got cool items, and you had to have a group and work together in order to survive. Everything else did get boring to me at times. The WoW world is HUGE though. Absolutely amazing how big it is, and it looks amazing on a nice computer. It's fun to be off in some far corner and see another person cruising by when you can wave them down, and work together. Some people like to quest alone or with friends. I was almost always with friends. I didn't like doing it alone.

I've heard WoW is a good MMORPG to start off with.

runescape has a free mmorpg, i enjoy it.
once yoy complete all the free quests and have your skills to a point where you like them, you can join their membership for $5 per month to get new skills, more world to explore, and double the quests.
and they update weekly, adding new quests, etc.

The last good MMORPG died in October, 2002. I'd say try WoW, it's palatable for the vast majority of people.

Grinding is better defined as performing the same, boring, monotonous task over and over and over and over again. Instance farming in WoW at level 60, for instance, is grinding. Players enter an instance repeatedly in attempts to find specific items.

Simply going out into the game world for a long period of time isn't necessarily grinding.

I play WoW but it's grown stale. The concept for games like this is cool but so far it seems more of the same sub par hamster wheel style of play. There is no in game feeling of accomplishment in the quests save for one, Save SharpBeak, which was cool. The rest may as well be a UPS or FedEx simulator. This will be the last month of WoW for me.

I found this useful, thank you.

I can probably guess, but what is it?

You'll like WoW. Buy it if only so you can experience the most popular western mmo ever.

This is accurate however (regarding WoW)

If you already play matrix online, you might consider trying EQII. The reason I say that, is that you can pay just a little bit more than you're paying for Matrix Online, and have access to all of the SOE games (SWG, EQ, EQII, Matrix Online, etc, etc). At that point, it's really like you only have to pay for the cost of purchasing the games and the monthly fees are the same as you are already paying so it is cheaper. If you want to quit the Matrix and never go back then I guess there isn't much advantage to choosing EQII over any other MMO... just a thought.
