how do i know what processes, services or programs are running during startup and shutdown?

Try going to Start, Run, type in 'msconfig", hit enter, click on the Startup tab. This should list all the programs that are running at startup and tell you why they are starting (registry entry, shortcut in startup menu, etc.). If you're looking for services, you need to go to the Services applet (can be found in Computer Management or under Administrative Tools in the control panel). Once you open up the services applet, you can sort the services by how they are started and look for the ones that say Automatic. Those are the ones that start at startup

for me, in win2k, i can't run "msconfig".
how can i do that?

download it from here Text just place it in
c/winnt/system32 folder..then run it from the "run" command
I tried to make the above link clickable, I can't seem to get it.
