I know they keep a fairly basic set of machines to serve the public without charge, and I've been too friggin cheap to upgrade until today. But I figured at $2.50 a month I'd show AT my support. I'm now on subscriber.anandtech.com and just wanted to report: it's blazingly fast.

I think I can dish out twice the rude comments in the same time now, I'm so buzzed. =)

Seriously, just a reminder. If you get value out of AT and could use the speed bump then consider subscribing.

No, I have nothing to do with AT, just throwing that out there.

Oh yea it's fast I just did the subsription today at least 2x speed Just had to do it was getting 56k flashbacks waitting on pages so long. But a one week or three day trial wouldn't be unresonable.

THIS is what I want to know:

What happens when we're all subscribers? We're all at the same speed then. Kinda like right before the subscriber thing came out. What's the advantage then? Do you "re-subscribe"?

Not that I don't love this place, but that question has been nagging me for a little while.

I seriously have little reason to asskiss anyone at AT. Lock this thread? I guarantee this would be the last thread to be locked- AT is a business, this thread is good for their business. If anything they would throw some glue and glitter on it then make it stick to the top for all to see.

My subscription comes with hesitation because the ploy was obvious- make the regular non paid forums painfully slow enough to make upgrading almost a necessity for regulars. As a consumer I'm not that thrilled with the prospect but from their perspective I think it's brilliant.

Anyway my point was to just say that if speed and completion are important and if you're here enough, $2.50 is worth the bump. Seeing how I'm godlike in my golden member status that should be enough for you lowly senior members to follow suit.

FW is nice but the collective asskissing there makes me feel hostile. It feels like I'm stuck in a commune.

I like it where people are just bitter and ignorant, and where the ever watching mod may strike me down at any moment.

Like this place!

Oh, the thrill. Weeeeeeee....

Then don't subscribe. (but don't complain about the speed then either)

FW is faster and better anyway.
If it's so much faster and better, then grab your deals from there. Not everything in life is free.

BTW, for those considering subscribing but don't know how much of a difference the speed makes, a page that used to take 10 seconds to load now loads instantly on a broadband connection. Dialup users have also noted a vast improvement in load times.

I imagine the subscription rates would remain stable or possibly even drop if a large majority of users were to subscribe. More subscriber revenues = more money to spend on bandwidth and servers.

If more and more people subscribe, the service will only get better and better.

I am very happy with my recent subscription. It is a night-and-day difference. I would compare the difference to when I went from dialup modem to broadband. It is that much faster. Of course, I "slowed it down" some by setting the max categories per page and max messages per page

i'm on here so much that $2.50 a month is not such a big deal...especially with the big increase in speed. i've been a subscriber for a couple months now, and i wouldn't want to be without it.

people that believe their threads are so important that they pronounce themselves that they deserve a sticky are funny.

So you guys are saying that if I give AT $2.50 a month, the load speed of these "hot deals" would significantly increase? How does it work?

People that take things entirely literal without appreciating or reading the complete thread are even funnier.

I'ts $2.50/month only if you prepay for 12 months. If you follow that linkie in the first post it will show you the details. I'm on a DSL connection and my load time increased at least 15x, I kid you not.
