I use my credit card for most of my purchases. I've even had my CC # stolen online (some retailer got hacked). The credit card company took care of the whole thing. It was fantastic.

My girlfriend however, does not want a credit card. There's no reasoning with her. I've tried numerous times.

Try again after she has to wait 10 days for her money. That might change how she feels.

Heh, we'll see. I tried again this afternoon to no luck. I just want her to get one for the credit score building aspect of it.

It's a pretty good reason for it. My wife and I bought a house this year and I thought that we were going to have low credit because we were relatively young (I just graduated a little over a year ago, she's still in school) without a huge credit history. My credit history was only 3 years on my credit card and 1 year making payments on a $5k student loan. Hers was only 2 years on her credit card. I had a credit score of ~750 and she had one of ~720. Qualifying for a loan was amazingly easy.

She wants to buy a car in a little over a year too. She's so damn stubborn

With no credit history she might be stuck with a loan that's pretty lousy.

There's also the fact that I average about $200 in cash back a year. I don't carry a balance and there is no annual fee on my card so that's all free money.

Unfortunately she doesn't spend enough to make the cash back worth it for her.

It's definitely a good idea to get a police report started, even if they're not gonna go out and roust every mastercard holder in town...

Then, tomorrow, call the bank and start the process with them. She'll be without a working card for a week or two, but it needs to be done.

You can also run it as credit.

Which is why they are more dangerous.

Almost everywhere I go I am able to use my plain ATM Debit card and PIN number for purchases. The card is connected to my checking account only and cannot be used to access my savings accounts. For the few places I can't use that, I have a regular credit card.

I had a Visa Debit card once. Never again. One time losing my own money and having to wait to get it back was quite enough.

Let them steal the credit card company's money.
