Strange bios problem

I am pulling whats left of my hair out over this one. I updated the bios on my Asus P5D-D
to the latest version,0601, and now when I go in and increase the FSB by any amount it defaults back to 1333 when I go back and check it again. I went back to an earlier
version and it seems to be permanent now. Anyone have any clues for me to follow up
on. I even tried a different CPU just for the heck of it and same situation. Asus is no
help at all. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm about to buy something else
if I can't get this fixed somehow.

I guess you've already tried clearing the CMOS? Pull the battery out, and unplug the PSU, wait 15 minutes before plugging everything back in. Load BIOS defaults, save, reboot, go into the BIOS again, disable EIST, try to change the voltage.

I've done that 3 times. I am truly out of things to try. The strange thing is all other
changes I make take. Memory timings, voltages ect... all work. 1334 won't stick.

Do you think I should post this in Motherboards since it has lots of looks and 1 reply.
I'm thinking a bios problem like this would be better to post on a site dedicated to
motherboards or people have decided, like me, that it can't be fixed and a new
board or bios chip is the only option.

Make sure you haven't hit a memory hole. I had that happen between 700-800mhz on a P5N-E-SLI board. Finally just left CPU alone and set memory at 900mhz and no problems moving fsb up after that.

Not running any overclock software in your OS that is changing your bios settings back?

1334 is a bad example - there are some holes where the motherboard can't generate appropriate timings and will round to the nearest figure it can provide. What happens when you select 1400?

That was just an example as to the severity of the problem. No increase of any amount
will stick. It looks like I will need to replace the bios chip it self. Asus will send me one
for $20 plus shipping. I did finally get a response back from my tech support email
and they said that the chip itself needs to be replaced.
I don't think I will buy another Asus board until they do something to improve their
tech support department. I've done a few bios updates and know the correct way
to do it. Oh well, what can I do other than shoot off emails until my fingers wear out.
No overclocking software. I do everything in the bios.

Thanks for the responses folks.
