Strange performance issue...

My PC runs pretty much fine 95% of the time, however about once every hour it slows to a crawl for about 1 minute. It resembles an audio CD skipping when it does this, with games or DVDs going at about .5-1 frame per second. It doesn't seem to matter what is running, it just does it at a regular interval regar dless of what I'm doing. Does anyone know what could be causing this brief and predictably scheduled slowdown?

Norton can really bog down a PC. Maybe it is auto checking for updates??????

I run McAfee, which only checks for updates and runs on it's own in the middle of the night. I don't think it's linked to any specific program, and I've run virus and spyware/adware scanners, so unless the programs I have for that (McAfee, Spybot, & Adaware SE) missed something, I don't think it's related to that either.

Any ideas???

Try turning off Windows Automatic updates. Sometimes they can cause svchost.exe in windows to run at 100% cpu resources and really bog a system down. Also what is the model and wattage of your power supply?

Maybe it's not providing enough power and throttling your cpu or video card down.

I'll try turning off the auto-update and see if that helps. I have a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU, which I think should be plenty to run my system.
